Wilcoam Posted August 3, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 3, 2009 Nice list of gear for sale at Silverseas website via a prefered supplier - What we didn't have we bought there (on-line) and had it delivered to the ship We did end up with an extra bag of clothes for departure and a crew women gave us untold crap about it (Ester) in advance but in the end big deal so we had and xtra bag and it was delivered to BA We brought one pair of pants - you can hose them down after every use in the boot room - Otherwise sure there is dry cleaning for a charge - One heavy pair of ski gloves - one lighter pair - absolutley used thermal long underwear - Silverseas will supply you with a ski jacket so don't bother - Most of this gear is actually lightweight and should not heavily increase your baggage weight limit On our cruise we left most of our Silverseas 'formal wear' back home - like the same trip on X Xpedition the usual rules are all thrown overboard - We rarely saw a tie or Jacket or fancy dress aboard IMo the things that do add weight to one's packing Good luck jc toronto

Thanks in advance. Pat Thee is a self service laundry. We just brought one pair of waterproof pants for both Antarctica and the Arctic. You don't need more. We have medium weight long underwear. Btw, on the PAI people were really casual to dinner. One person wore a t shirt and flip flops every night.
pacmom Posted August 3, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted August 3, 2009 Wilcoam and Jade 13, Thanks so much for the replies. Guess DH can leave the sport jacket at home. We had hoped that one pair of waterproof pants wound be enough. Now to start shopping at Dicks and Gander Mountain and online. One more trip to go before I can really start serious planning. Again, many thanks. Pat

Again, many thanks. Pat I would recommend the sports jacket. We were on the PAII in the Arctic (just got back 2 weeks ago) and my DH did wear his suit on the three informal nights (no tie). We were actually on Minerva with Abercrombie & Kent for Antarctica and it was the same (they had two informals) and the dress was all over the place. One thing about Antarctica on our ship was that it was common for people to bring a parka and camera to the dining room so they could rum outside when a whale was spotted. Try LL Bean. If their online store does not show the pants (or fleece because it is summer) you can call and ask for their $39.00 rain pants. They need to be large enough to fit over your sweats or fleece pants. They have long underwear in three weights.
