mississauga Posted August 4, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 4, 2009 I'm not a drinker so have never paid attention to what drink coupons were. However, DS and his GF may be going on a cruise with us and I would like to buy some drink coupons for them. Can anyone tell me exactly what they are for? Cost? What you can buy with them and if they are a good value? Better than buying drinks on your S&S card? Thanks for any information or advice.

You can purchase the drink coupons online from Carnival's website and when I purchased some they were 4 coupons for $21.25 (it used to be $19.50). They entitle you to a drink with a maximum drink value of $5.50 (that's what it was in April this year) and includes the tip. They are a good value as you can use any leftover coupons on a subsequent cruise. They aren't a great value for beer as they had specials when I was there like a bucket of beer (4 bottles) for $19.25. You can also use all 4 coupons to get a bottle of wine. I guess the real savings is the tipping plus some of the bars will let you use them for premium drinks.

If the drink you order is more than $5.50, do they then charge the extra on the person's S&S?

As I mentioned, some times you'll get a good bartender who won't care about the extra and just let it go. Otherwise, yes, they just charge the difference to the person's S&S card. In each type of liquor there were a few choices that you could use the coupons for but be careful in the lobby bars and they tend to only have the premium items or only have those on display. In that case, ask first and they will tell you. I hope that helps!
flounder315 Posted August 4, 2009 #5 Share Posted August 4, 2009 I buy some for my DH every cruise. Helps lower the S&S at the end...:D
mississauga Posted August 4, 2009 Author #6 Share Posted August 4, 2009 I forgot to ask When you order from the website, do they send the coupons to you or do you pick them up when you board?
Jacque_12 Posted August 4, 2009 #7 Share Posted August 4, 2009 Oh sorry, I forgot to mention that part. They are given to you your first evening at dinner (they come around and go from table to table). In April we picked them up at the Maitre D's desk as we sailed at 10:00 p.m. so it was open seating for dinner.

Jacque_12 Posted August 4, 2009 #9 Share Posted August 4, 2009 so we just buy these onboard?? are they a deal for a glass of wine? I don't know if you can still buy them online. My parents tried to one year but were told they'd have to use the computer and order online from Carnival's website so in the end, I ordered some for them and had them delivered. I did find them to be a good deal on wine as they had a good selection that you could use them for plus one evening they had a wine and cheese party and some of the $7.00+ glasses were on sale for $5.25 so the coupons could be used for them. I drank far too much wine that evening!

The day of the wine and cheese party, it was advertised in that day's Carnival Caper plus they had a sign by the bar.
Froufie Posted August 4, 2009 #12 Share Posted August 4, 2009 There is usually a 'drink of the day' and martini of the day and both are usually mentioned in the Capers (and advertised at the bars). There is a new drink of the day card now - costs $23.00 for 5 daily tropical drinks - which I believe gets you one drink for free - this can be purchased onboard! Thanks...our last bar bill was over $600.00 for a 3 day cruise 10 years ago. We had no idea what we were doing. We also did not know the tips were being added on...I just found that out on this board.

ManyMore Posted August 4, 2009 #16 Share Posted August 4, 2009 Not all ships have the drink of the day card for whatever reason. You can also just have some money put on their sail and sign card to buy drinks or whatever it is they might want.

Is this new card only good for tropical drinks? Does it replace the other drinks card or do you purchase the card for the different types of drinks?
