doogster Posted August 4, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 4, 2009 I have a Carnival cruise coming up in a few weeks and I would like to park right at the ship... I know there is parking there, but I don't know if there is "enough" parking there. I'm worried I will show up with my car, luggage, and family... and be turned away because of a lack of spots! I tried calling Carnival and they couldn't answer my question... I tried calling the operator of the parking garage and all you get is a recording giving you general info and no option to actually talk to anyone. Has anyone parked at the Manhattan pier??? I have parked there more than once. It has never ever been reported as full. Now that it is $30 per day I doubt it ever will be. ps welcome to cruise critic! navybankerteacher Posted August 4, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 4, 2009 Yes, I have- a couple of years ago. It was $17 per day as I recall. Two ships sailed from the terminal that afternoon, and there were many empty spaces on the upper deck (I have no idea about lower deck). Because I was concerned about possibility of shortage of space, I timed my arrival for 10:00 AM - figuring that debarking passengers would have picked up their cars and not to many embarking passengers would have arrived by then. It worked very well.
Grandpaul Posted August 4, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 4, 2009 I've seen it full a couple times but if you get there around 10-10:30, as mentioned, you won't have any problem.
dkjretired Posted August 4, 2009 #5 Share Posted August 4, 2009 I would think also that in the unlikely event it is full they would direct you over to the parking at one of the other piers. There are several piers and I believe each has their own parking.. Might be a little bit of a walk but at least you could park...

Again I have never seen it full or heard of anyone ever being turned away because it was full. They have also used the service lane to park cars when necessary. nybumpkin Posted August 5, 2009 #7 Share Posted August 5, 2009 We've sailed from Manhattan six times and have never had a problem getting a parking spot. The worst that has happened is that we've had to park on a pier other than the one where our ship is docked. But that's okay - we also had one time where we were parked at the pier where the ship was docked only to have the ship dock at another pier on the return! The piers are all connected, so it's not a big deal.
Grandpaul Posted August 5, 2009 #8 Share Posted August 5, 2009 Well, I have seen the lots full and they were double parking cars to get them all in the lots which caused a few problems when the people blocked in couldn't get out.
heatherandfred Posted August 5, 2009 #9 Share Posted August 5, 2009 :eek:WOW!! I had no freaking clue that it was that much! What's going on Port Authority??? Trying to rip people off??!! I guess I'll never park there. It cost us $60 to get from Tuckahoe, NY to the pier and that's one way. Guess I'll be taking a cab or a car service. I know this will sound strange but the port authority has nothing to do with the cruise pier and terminals(either in Manhattan or Brooklyn). The Piers are owned by the City of New York operated under a license to the NY City Economic development corp(EDC). The Pier is actually run by P & O America(P&O America operates many of the cruise and ship terminals in the US- this company was spun out of a purchase of P&O when P&O was bought by a Saudia Ariabian company and the US Congress complained about some foreigners operating our ports) as a licensee of the EDC and the parking is a licensee of P & O America. Its part of NY City's we hate cars owned by the middle class...
Sohker Posted August 7, 2009 #11 Share Posted August 7, 2009 Is the current cost $30 each day or $30 each 24 hours. The first way my 5 day cruise might cost me for 6 days to park. THX

The first way my 5 day cruise might cost me for 6 days to park.THX It's $30 per night. So, if your cruise is 5 days, 4 nights, it'll cost $120. We've been there when every berth was occupied and still didn't have a problem parking.
