Colo Cruiser Posted August 9, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 9, 2009 Has anyone ever booked a particular cruise simply because they want to have a repeat experience with certain employees (steward, bartender, cruise director) or entertainers? Yes for the CD and the MD as they are dear friends also. :D
Pia1913 Posted August 9, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 9, 2009 Has anyone ever booked a particular cruise simply because they want to have a repeat experience with certain employees (steward, bartender, cruise director) or entertainers? Piano player Bert Stratton has quite a following and yes, people book cruises just to be where he is. I've never seen him.
uppitycats Posted August 9, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 9, 2009 I never have. I really couldn't tell you who any of those people have been on any of my cruises. I appreciate a good piano bar, or a classical guitarist, but have never really paid attention to the names or positions of any of the folks who are employees or entertainers on any particular ship. jjones Posted August 9, 2009 #5 Share Posted August 9, 2009 I have taken several cruises just because JP Nadeau was playing in the Piano Bar. He has become a good friend as well as a great entertainer.
Sunsailor Posted August 9, 2009 #6 Share Posted August 9, 2009 We have made the decision between two ships in the Caribbean in favor of the one that Bert Stratton was on because he was on it.
Rare 5:00_Somewhere Posted August 9, 2009 #7 Share Posted August 9, 2009 Absolutely. On our very first cruise (Princess, of course) we met a then-ACD and became fast friends. We've been friends ever since and have booked cruises 3 times specifically because he was assigned to the ship. Unfortunately, only once did we actually get to cruise together again (Feb. 2008) because he was transferred unexpectedly on 2 prior occasions. But, hey, it was still a cruise. ;) In addition, we had an amazing cruise on the Ruby in December 2008 and became friendly with several members of the staff and crew. We booked the Ruby again for February 2010 partly because we fell in love with the ship, and also because we confirmed that many of the people we fell in love with on the prior cruise are supposed to be on the Ruby (either still or again) at that time. And, if anyone knows where our favorite MD waitress, Kayan from Jamaica, is at any given moment, please let us know. We'd do almost anything to sail with her again anytime. :D
caber Posted August 9, 2009 #8 Share Posted August 9, 2009 We had a great head waiter once on a P&O cruise. We got on so well that the next year, as we were booked on the same ship, we requested we be seated in his section of the dining room. Unfortunately he had been indiscrete with a passenger and had to leave the ship the day we boarded.
Rare PescadoAmarillo Posted August 9, 2009 #9 Share Posted August 9, 2009 We haven't done this yet, but if anyone know if Marilla from Brazil has returned to a Princess ship for a new contract, I think we would consider second and even third choice ships and itinararies to see her again. Her smiling face at the International Cafe and as a greeter in the Anytime Dining room on the Emerald added so much to our cruise experience. I think that she was the perfect example of having her talent (in her case, her sweet disposition) utilized in the best possible positions. And, as I've said before on this board, an Alastair Greener/Frankie CD/ACD combo...for that cruise I would truly go to the ends of the earth. recyclelady Posted August 9, 2009 #10 Share Posted August 9, 2009 No, but I do exchange notes back and forth via Facebook with our waitress from our February Sapphire cruise!
cruiserus Posted August 9, 2009 #11 Share Posted August 9, 2009 No. We pick our cruises based on itinerary. I do enjoy seeing crew again, and I am thrilled if a favorite performer happens to be aboard, but I am there mainly to see the ports.

I'm certainly not going to book a cruise because he's on it, but I would like to know if perhaps he'll be on one that I already have booked. reggielew Posted August 10, 2009 #16 Share Posted August 10, 2009 Hi! I know that Bert is going to be on the Caribbean Princess from the end of August until early November, but I don't know what his schedule will be after that. We are planning to see him on the "Bert Cruise" on the Crown December 5th. However, I don't know when he'll be on any of the ships after that. When he was on the ships almost full time, we used to check his schedule before we booked. Now that he has moved to Nashville, he is on the ships less and often fills in when and where he is needed. Hopefully, we'll be able to catch him again sometime during the winter. I'm definitely a big fan!!! Reggie
dfields1814 Posted August 10, 2009 #17 Share Posted August 10, 2009 I have heard through the grapevine that there are people who book a cruise because of a piano playing singer named Mauritzo is on that cruise. On a recent transatlantic cruise he was quite popular and always had a large following when he sang. In fact there were so many people that the passageway was blocked. He is not our cup of tea. I just heard him as we walked by or tried to walk by through all of his fans.
KruzPrincess Posted August 10, 2009 #18 Share Posted August 10, 2009 Has anyone ever booked a particular cruise simply because they want to have a repeat experience with certain employees (steward, bartender, cruise director) or entertainers? No exactly and not Princess, but I've been on a couple of Oldies Music theme cruises. They are really a lot of fun with people who have our same taste in music. We often see people we know from the Oldies circuit. Tentatively hope to do the Concerts at Sea cruise in 2011.
California Native Posted August 10, 2009 #19 Share Posted August 10, 2009 Nope, but I'm always thrilled to cross paths with crew members that I've sailed with before.. just remember as pointed out in a post above A crew member can have their schedule changed at the spur of the moment. I have had 3 different Captains on 1 cruise!
Paka Posted August 10, 2009 #20 Share Posted August 10, 2009 We were so pleased with Captain John Foster, CD David cole, and music duo Elua, that we booked the Golden to Hawaii again this year. They made our cruise last October the best we have ever had, so we decided to come back for more this year!! I hope Captain John Foster will be the captain this year. I have heard David Cole and Elua will be on the cruises to Hawaii.

cardfans Posted August 10, 2009 #22 Share Posted August 10, 2009 Is there anyway to find out who the captain will be for a particular ship and cruise? Also, can you find out what entertainment will be on your particular cruise?
jfgdbg Posted August 10, 2009 #23 Share Posted August 10, 2009 Has anyone ever booked a particular cruise simply because they want to have a repeat experience with certain employees (steward, bartender, cruise director) or entertainers? No, we haven't done that but have rebooked on the ships we like. We did 4 cruises on the "old" Royal princess and had another one booked (which was cancelled) before she was sent to P and O and now have cruised 3 times on the "new" Royal Princess.
