St John and Shopping in St Thomas - same day?

We are in port from 8:00 - 5:30. Can we go to St John, spend a little time, come back and still have time to do some shopping in town? Just want to make sure it is doable without missing the boat! Thanks in advance.

Yes.......but start early.....you would want to catch the first available ferry to St John which for you would be 9AM.

Ferries leave every hour on the hour both ways....

I would then catch the 1PM ferry back from St John........this would get you to town shopping or Havensite shopping area by 1:30.

I do not know where you will be docked...either Havensite or Crown Bay.

We are at Charlotte Amalie - not sure the dock name. I wanted to do St John first since that is more important to us and the shops don't open until 9:30 or 10.

Thanks for the quick response.

  • 2 weeks later...

Last year DH and I were the first ones off the ship and took a cab downtown for about 2.5 hours. We hopped in a cab back to Havensight adn had pizza in a pizza place right there. Went back on the ship to drop off our bags, then took a ship excursion to St John.

It was wonderful. We were the last ones back on the ship, but it was with RCCL so it was fine.
