Casinos on Hawaii cruises...when open, etc?

Recommended Posts

I am looking at doing a round trip west coast to Hawaii - and wondered what the policy was for casinos/gambling was due to gaming laws. Do all lines offer casinos on these trips? Are they then "closed" when in Hawaiian ports?

I LOVE cruising but love gambling even more....so the answers may cause me to changing my itinerary!

And yes....I COULD just look up each individual cruise ship doing the trips and check but I prefer leaving it to all of the experts on this site!

I dont have all the specific times but the casino will be open only when the ship is in international waters. This means that during the days of crossing the pacific, it will be open. Once you arrive in hawaii, it will not be open at all until you start your return to the west coast. THe Pride of Hawaii doesnt even have a casino since it never leaves United States waters.

Hi! When you say round trip west coast to Hawaii -- if you mean from California or Washington state (i.e., United States) to Hawaii and back, then the casinos will not be open at all.

leaving from L.A. and the casion was open late that evening and for the next 3 days until we reached the first island. I am not too sure when it was open when we were around the islands, but on the return trip it was open all the way to Ensenada and when I went to bed that night (before arrival in L.A. the next morning, the casino was open. I'll check with my traveling friend who is an avid gambler and get her input and get back to you.

We were on the Mercury 15 day Hawaian cruise out of San Diego. The casino was open every night except the night we spent overnight in Honolulu.

As in most cases, the casino is never open when in port... so if you have an overnight somewhere, then the casino will be closed. The only other Reg. I am aware of, and I learnt this talking to NCL people about NCLA - a ship must make a call (stop) in a non-US port. so Mex. or Canada or Fanning Island. If the ship goes LA to the Islands and back then you should not have a running Casnio. Taht is why NCLA ship(s) had the casinos removed, and then when they were sent back to NCL they had to drydock to put the casinos back in!!!

Did you ever book a Hawaii cruise? I know you can gamble on the ones that leave Vancouver or US port to Hawaii. No gambling allowed inside Hawaiian state limits.
