I am getting nervous now. Do you think they will make this weeks cruise leave Bermuda early?

We may be OK since it will be over Bermuda on Saturday morning. Hopefully there is no damage to the island. I guess we will have to watch and wait.

This weeks cruise I believe is scheduled to depart Bermuda on Friday. Bill is schedule to arrive in Bermuda on Saturday 8:00 am. If Bill continues to gain strength, which is suspected, they will probably be feeling the effects in Bermuda by Friday. They may have to leave Bermuda a little early.

We're not scheduled to arrive till Wednesday but who know what conditions will be like by then. No telling where the eye will hit just yet.

Since we have two sea days and it only takes one to get to Bermuda we can probably kill some time avoiding Bill's path.

BTW Nova Scotia is very pretty this time of year.

I hope everything will turn out great - and you cant help nature.... Big differance for some people expecting the pink sands of Bermuda....

Hope people have an open mind and think they way you do about Nova Scotia.

There are things that are out of anyone's control. Hurricanes are one of those things. So we need to be open to other options. Personally I would prefer to keep our destination in the Caribbean. Per the contract the cruise lines can change the itineraries as they see fit. For the safety of the pax I have no problem with that. While Nova Scotia is pretty I would prefer we made our way to some Caribbean destination that was not in the path of a storm.

Communication will be key. If NCL communicates with the pax and keeps us informed then expectations can be managed.

But let me go on record now. Substituting Boston for Bermuda would be a definite Ney Ney.

We went to Bermuda on the Majesty out of Boston for our honeymoon back in September 2003. There was a hurricane the week before and they called and told us we were going to Canada. But at the last minute they said we could go to Bermuda but the island was really hit hard. The bridge from one side of the island to the other was partially washed out and you had to time your trips to make sure you were back to the boat side before cut-off or you were stuck on the other side of the island until morning. There were also water taxis but they were expensive.

I remember that the ride down was very choppy and everybody on board got seasick (even the crew). Not too fun -- especially on a honeymoon. But it turned out fine in the end. We had a great time and hope to go back maybe next year.

NCL should be contacting you to let you know what's going on. Hopefully you'll get to go to Bermuda instead of our neighbor to the north.

I'm heading to Bermuda on the Spirit on the 28th. If a hurricane is threatening Bermuda, do they always re-route north to Canada, or do they sometimes head south too? Or does it just depend on where the hurricane will NOT be?

They go the opposite way from it.

We went to canada because there was a low forming off Fla as Fabian was hitting Bermuda

It's harder to head south because a lot of the Caribean IslandS take a long time to get to....Bahamas is another option...but the ccruiseline has to find a place that they can dock at or tender to. If there are alot of portless ships it makes it harder for them to get dock space or tender permission. That is why sometimes when ships are not able to dock or tender at their destination they end up sailing around and not stopping at all......but I don't think they would try that on a seven day cruise....but then again there was a Carnival ship that sailed around during the swine flu and it never made port. BUT stay positive because I'm on your cruise and I am a good luck charm.....GO YANKEES!!!!!

OP, I'm leaving the same day on the Majesty leaving Baltimore on a 5-day cruise to Bermuda. We are supposed to be in port only Tues. night and Wed. morning, so I'm wondering how it will all work out, i.e., change of port, skirting the storm, rough seas, etc. It should be interesting, indeed!

I am not a meteorologist but, I just looked at the national hurricane website. It doesn't look like it will hit Bermuda directly. But it probably will dump alot of rain.

Also not a navigator but if the storm takes the path they are showing we could be able to go down the east coast before making our way east to Bermuda. We have two sea days so the captain will have options. We could even stay by the Verezano for the night and wait for the storm to blow by and then make our way down. In any case we probably will feel the effects some how. Hopefully it will not be too bad.

Keep your eye on the NCL website. So far nothing about Bill, but they're altering the itinerary for the Sky: http://www.ncl.com/nclweb/pressroom/pressRelease.html?storyCode=WU_Generic_081709b Look in the upper left-hand corner of the web site main page. They will post any changes in itinerary on the front page. Either one of two things will happen: either leave Bermuda early (Thursday eve perhaps?) or they'll divert to Canada. But, they will not cancel the cruise. That's for sure....

I was wondering about this and I am hoping the storm will blow over. Just think of the people that do not know about CC sitting at home clueless.

Well, some of those people will have seen a prediction that it is possibly going to be a Cat 3 in two more days, even if they don't see it here. Not exactly clueless, really.

I agree, I don't think the 8/23 has any chance of being cancelled, but the 8/30 one may be in jeopardy if Bill hits NY directly. At this point, who knows what it will do, but the news here is already predicting Bill to be the "big" one .

Looking at this....

I would say this week's cruise should be able to remain in Bermuda and get back to NY on schedule, but it looks like those leaving on the 23rd may be headed elsewhere as the hurricane is going to be between you and your destination.

I'd be very surprised if they head to Bermuda, especially with a Cat 3 out there.

The eye of the storm should be north east of NY by departure time. Worst comes to worst we would stay in NY harbor one night. Heading north towards Canada would be following the storm. It only takes one sea day to Bermuda and we are scheduled for two. We should be able to skirt around it, but will probably have some rain and a bumpy ride.

Unless NYC or Bermuda takes a direct hit it'll all be history by the time you leave on the 30th (barring any new ones developing by then). Last time I looked it will be north of Bermuda by Sunday, 8/23 and you won't get to BDA until Wednesday 9/2.

I know it's several weeks away but we're on the 9/6 cruise on the Dawn from New York to Canada. What would NCL do if a hurricane should develop after Bill and head up the east coast? Where do they usually re-route cruises from New York bound for Canada, Bar Harbor, Boston, Newport? Thanks!
