Buying Liquor Bottles on NCL

On most other lines, you can preorder or order once on the ship bottles of liquor. Does NCL offer this, I can not find.

Also, when brining wine on, do you pay a corkage fee, just to bring on or if you bring into a resturant.

Yes and yes... As far as ordering bottles , go to the top of the page and search " Bar set-up " . You will find more info than you need ...;)

Bar setup is only in ADVANCE of the cruise, not once you get onboard. Any booze you buy in the gift shop is held until the last night.

Wine is $15 per 750ml, no matter where you drink it, room or restaurant.

We ordered our bar setup - no problem - for our October cruise. We also wanted to bring wine on board, something we enjoyed doing on our Princess cruises. According to these boards, NCL allows you to bring wine on board and charges a corkage fee per bottle. But the website and our "Welcome Aboard" booklet say that "guests are not allowed to bring alcoholic beverages of any kind on board."

So what's the scoop? Have the rules changed?

You can buy the booze on the ship, once you board...Been there-done that, but it's a little "pricey" or let me re-phrase that, it's real pricey. Always remember, like here on the forum, it's all in who you ask...;)

The wine thing is really worth it though, they keep her chilled and wil bring it to you and serve it, in the restaurants, $15 that ain't too bad...:D

Agreed you can buy a bottle on board ,But you are charged at the per shot price. The bar set up is charged at a much reduced rate ( well maybe not much reduced).

Two completely different things.;)

Not correct.

only owners suite and the FULL garden villa get free booze.

We have stayed in garden villas and an owners suite both on short cruises. In the garden villas the bar was set up but it was a pay bar. In the owners suite the bar was emptied of all liquor, even though we were led to believe that there was a free bar set up only soda was available free.

we did find this annoying, as even though we do not drink much, we had to order through room service which obviously took quite a long time to arrive even though it was our personal butler.

Any wine purchased ashore will be taken away and need to be collected on the last night of your cruise. you are definately not allowed to have any in your room.

LN50 - I and many many people here will not agree with what you are saying at all - unless you are talking about a ONE night cruise.

Owners suite and Garden Villa (not courtyard villa) get 3 free bottles. Has been that way for years except a short few weeks about two years ago when some idiot exec took it away. Yes, they also have a mini bar that you pay for.

Wine can be handed over until the end of the cruise or you can pay the $15 charge. This might not be stated anywhere, but trust the hundreds of people here that say you can and as far as I can only one person says different.

Sort of a related question....speaking of liquor.

What is the going price for bottles bought in the duty free shops on board the Spirit for say....vodka....Captain Morgan.....Parrot Bay. On our last cruise in March we bought some bottles for $10 each on the Jewel. Anyone know if there are any deals onboard? TIA

Although I've never stayed in one, GV's actually receive 6 bottles with the OS getting 3.;) I'm sure someone who's experienced that will confirm.

LN50 did say that the GV and OS cruises were both "short." Not necessarily a one nighter, but maybe even on the 3-4 nighters they don't offer the liquor?

How do you arrange for them to hold it and chill it for you?

I have always brought it with me to my cabin (after paying the $15 corkage upon boarding), and chilled it one bottle at a time, and brought it to the dining room with me.......

I think they mean that if you do not finish it all in one sitting they keep it chilled for you until the next night.

OK--yes this is a nice perk--and having it retrieved for you, even if dining at a different restaurant!:D

Recently on the Dawn they had daily specials (except when in port), like 10% off all liquor (bought Frangelico for $15), or Absolut 2/$30...

These numbers are approximate and to be used for examples only....

I can only describe what we experienced. It was this year a two night in the courtyard Villas and three nights in the owners suite. Maybe they are cutting back.

To my mind paying a $15 dollar corkage if you want to drink in your room is excessive. IMHO. :)

It would not stop me from using NCL again or one of the villas Good value for money we thought and the freedom to dine whenever.

I may be wrong but I beleive the liquor provided to GV & OS are only for cruises of 7+ nights.

You can take your bottle to the dining room (or specialty restaurant) ahead of time and they will chill it for you. They will give you a receipt which you give to your server when you arrive for dinner and they will retrieve the bottle.

Voila! :D
