clynniec Posted August 19, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 19, 2009 Our ship gets in a 5am. Flight leaves at 7:50. Anyone know if taxis are available at that hour and is this best way to go in case ship is late in debarkation. Thanks
gfranzen Posted August 19, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 19, 2009 Also, is there a cheaper way to the airport? I understand a taxi is quite expensive.

Anyone know if taxis are available at that hour and is this best way to go in case ship is late in debarkation. Thanks This is the only way! The good news is that the tazie's in CP{H usually line up early, the bad is that if anything delays you even in the slightest you are running the risk of getting to the airport too late. I assume that these are nonrefundable etc tickets, but I really hope you saved a bundle because you have bought at the least a lot of stress. That said, make sure the purser's office knows your needs. You might want to get a phone number for a CPH can company and give a call at 5 or so asking for a cab. Rare Keith1010 Posted August 20, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 20, 2009 I would verify with the airline what time you need to check in for the flight. I would be concerned about the time of your flight. Just because you arrive at 5:00 AM the ship needs to be cleared and luggage unloaded. I would check with the cruise line as to what the would have advised as the earliest flight to get. Keith
Rare LHT28 Posted August 20, 2009 #5 Share Posted August 20, 2009 I think you are cutting it too close You probably need to check in 2 hrs prior + 30 min to the airport. What if the ship arrives late? I would book a later flight or stay overnight
Granny DI Posted August 26, 2009 #6 Share Posted August 26, 2009 What airline are you taking out of Copenhagen? What ship? We had an 11:25 Delta flight to Atlanta yesterday Aug 25. We left the hotel before 8...too early as the ticket counter doesn't open until 3 hours before the flight. We checked in at 8:25. Security was about 3 minutes. We had breakfast, shopped etc...then decided to head to the gate an hour prior to departure time. Here was the big surprise of the day...HUGE lines to go through immigration again. Our flight was boarding while we were standing in the line. We made it to our gate just in time to go through security/passport stuff again. The flight left at 11:10!!!!!! I'm thinking your flight is too close unless you're on SAS!!! SAS lets you get your boarding passes 22 hours in advance and has a kiosk to print luggage tags, then a luggage drop...only need less than two hours for this. Delta has you do everything the"old fashion way"...I say spend the night in Copenhagen and fly out the next day!!! We got off the Emerald Princess on Monday Aug 24 about 10:am and there was a very long line for taxis...took at leat 45 minutes to get a cab. We were kept on the ship until enough taxis arrived!!! We spent the night in Copenhagen because the plane tickets were cheaper for Aug 25's flight...$900 cheaper than on August 24.
WeBeGone Posted August 29, 2009 #7 Share Posted August 29, 2009 I know that 7:10 flight is the least expensive but you're really taking a chance. Even IF the ship arrives on time, and the weather is such that they don't have to dock at the northern port, you won't get off at 5:00. Probably 5:30 is the earliest, then 30 min to the airport, that only leaves an hour to clear check in. Take a later flight or spend the night. GoLaLaKers Posted August 29, 2009 #8 Share Posted August 29, 2009 It took almost 1 hour to get out of the port area 3 weeks ago. There were 3 ships in port, and they were doing construction at the exit of the port. We were off the boat at 8, and got to the airport at 10. We barely made our 10:50 flight. I think you are cutting way to close.
capriccio Posted August 29, 2009 #9 Share Posted August 29, 2009 You are definitely cutting it close. Is your flight direct to the States or within Europe? Check in times vary greatly. Check out the Copenhagen Airport web site http://www.cph.dk/CPH/UK/MAIN/Before+Departure/. It gives check in time requirements by airline, class of service, and destination. It is about a 20 minute ride (without traffic) from the port to the airport. On Princess (and probably other lines) you can get off earlier if you're taking a taxi but that requires self disembarking -- transporting your own luggage. The lines looked long on the day we disembarked but they were moving. I've read that they have two lines - one for 'normal' size taxis (2 people, a couple of pieces of luggage) and the other for large (station wagons mostly) taxis (more than 2 people, lots of luggage). It is also dependent on the day of the week I would think. I don't know how Copenhagen traffic is on a weekday morning at rush hour but before 7 am the trip to the airport was a breeze. CB Group Posted August 31, 2009 #10 Share Posted August 31, 2009 Our trip arrived at 10PM the night before we were to disembark. We were off the ship at 7am for a 9:00 am flight, and there were hundreds of taxi cabs waiting. It cost approximately $40 USD. Hope this is a little help. We returned on August 24th. Be prepared in Copenhagen airport to go through several checkpoints. (Three I believe)
