Different feel on different size ships??

My DH and I (retired seniors) have gone on 2 cruises. Veendam (my favorite) 2 years ago, Rotterdam last year. We felt the size of these ships suited us perfectly. Enjoyed the activities on board and even liked dressing up on formal nights !

We are now looking at a cruise for next year. The ones we are interested in all seem to be on the Prinsendam or Eurodam. I'm concerned the Prinsendam might feel too small to us and the Eurodam might be too big. I do have knee problems. Any thoughts on what your experiences have been on ships that are so different in size?

Yes, you'll do noticably more walking on the Eurodam. DW and I feel the R-class ships (e.g. Rotterdam) are the best size for us, and I feel the S-class are a bit too small. I don't think I'd like the Prinsendam size.

Aside from the distances and the number of people, we think that HAL's ships are fairly consistent in what they offer. We have been on three different sizes, and liked them all. You have a tough choice as the Eurodam has the extra touch with the asian restaurant, and the Prinsendam is a firm favourite for so many people, specifically because of its size and elegance...

What a delightful choice to have!!!

I've sailed both the Prinsendam and the E-dam. And I have a bad knee, and the attendant trouble walking.

The Prinsendam has everything the Veendam and Rotterdam have, except a Piano Bar. The E-dam has the additional Tamarind and Silk Den, and the Caneletto.

If I had to choose between the two, it's the Prinsendam without a doubt. The service was much better there. Because there are fewer passengers, it's easier for the stewards to get to know you, and your preferences. Every facit of shipboard life on the Prinsendam was just a little bit better than on the other ships.

I sure hope Prinsendam doesn't feel too small to me next year. I will look at it as a journey rather than a cruise and enjoy the quiet peacefulness of a longer trip.

I am finding I don't enjoy the ones that are so big as much as smaller ones. (like Navigator of the Seas or Carnival Destiny seemed very big. I will report on the big new Carnival Dream after my trip this fall)

I find Noordam and Volendam nice sizes too.

It takes a lot of experience trying out the different cruise lines, sizes of ships and styles of cruises! What a way to go eh? I like to experience the different ships. But overall I feel the most at home on HAL even though I have a few gripes. There is something really homely or homey about HAL ships.:)
