Zaandam Review 12/11-18/2004 Part 3

Food:

The food in the Rotterdam Dining Room and Lido Restaurant was the best we've ever had at sea. We ate each evening meal in the Rotterdam Dining Room. The menu was quite varied and the service was excellent. Some of my favorite items were the chilled fruit soups (especially the blueberry), the fish entrees, the lobster was cooked perfectly, and the desserts were heavenly We sat at a large table of 10, and we had great fun with our tablemates. Absorbed in our lively, laughter-filled conversations, we were some of the last people to leave every night. Every night when our head waiter showed us the dessert tray, we loudly ooohed and aaaahed over each selection in unison, which garnered some smiles and stares from surrounding tables. We applauded the loudest each night for the Jell-O selection and on some nights ordered the Jell-O (along with our "real" dessert choices) just for the fun of it. On night we cut a mound of red Jell-O into 10 wedges, which amused our waiters.

The lido café was our retreat for breakfast and lunch and we found the food to be of high quality.

Entertainment: I was disappointed in the quality of the musicians and other performers on this ship. Some of the acts that I had heard were favorites (i.e. Paul Tanner) were just okay, but were accompanied by instrumentalists that were playing out of tune. I don’t understand why a lead guitar and a saxophonist cannot tune up prior to performance. Maybe it’s all of that damp, salt air . . . DV8 magic act was OK, but the couple is so cute you don’t really mind their cheesiness.

But....hey.....knocking the jello!!!! :D That's my fav!! ;) :) :D

All kidding aside ... when I order desert, it's usually jello with whipped cream on top. Sadly, chocolate doesn't agree with me, and neither does anything excessively laden with sugar. So the jello is what I usually order ... that is, when I have room for dessert after one of those sumptous meals. :)

Blue skies ...
