Family of 7 on a budget

Hey everyone... Looking for things to do in Progresso for a family of 7 (ages 10-19) on a budget! First time cruising as well... So much info... Very overwhelming! Lol

Progesso is a tough call for something cheap. It is an industrial port town with a pier that sits out a couple miles from the mainland because of shallow water. You take a bus into town, there is really no beach area.

Most go to Progesso because it is the only cruise stop that is close enough to make a day trip into the large Mayan ruin sites.

Why spend a lot of $$ on a cruise and not make a once in a lifetime excursion???? It would cost thousands of dollars to get to the ruins any other way. Consider taking advantage of the port location. :)

You can catch the double decker bus where the shuttle lets you off for a cheap ride..We went to Merida once by cab and enjoyed that...There is beach in Progreso, but the water is not very pretty. If you have not been , you will be amazed at the difference when you get to Cozumel.You might check out Autoprogresso tours also.

What was the price for the cab ride to Merida? For the buses? Thanks.

OK, well, I am reading it's $40 each way in a cab, but just $2 for a bus to Merida? Can that be right? Anyone???
