Scooter rentals?

Are there convenient places to rent scooters on this island? What about renting a van for 8 people? Is it a safee island (besides the driving on the left) to be riding around. Could we see everything and go to different beaches this way or is it a better idea to do a tour. We really didn't want to be in a tour situation with a whole bunch of people. There are already 8 of us, which means we probably wouldn't all fit in a regular taxi to do a private tour anyway. What do you think?
