crazy4cruisn Posted September 4, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 4, 2005 Will the $5 shuttle that goes from near the port to the mansions be available Oct 24? A previous poster mentioned that it was not operating then. Are the crowds less at that time of year?
SailBadtheSinner Posted September 5, 2005 #2 Share Posted September 5, 2005 My reading at the RIPTA (Rhode Island Public Transportation Authority) site ( http://www.ripta.com/contentmgr/showdetails.php/id/320 ) for Newport would make me agree that the trolley service is not operating that late in October. However, there is an alternative – take a local bus #67 - Bellevue/Salve Regina Univ. Outbound/Inbound. You would pick it up at Newport Gateway Center which is one block north from where you will disembark from the tender. Since the Breakers is next door to Salve Regina Univ. and the other mansions are nearby within walking distance, you’ll get where you want to go. The bus runs about every 20 minutes, outbound and in. Here is the Outbound schedule: http://www.ripta.com/schedules/view.php?route=67&direction=2 & the Inbound: http://www.ripta.com/schedules/view.php?route=67&direction=1 Of course, maybe they run the trolleys when a cruise ship is visiting Newport. For crowds, there will be less than the summer but each cruise ship visiting brings its own.
