Chania, Crete, Trip Report

When we booked this early May cruise on Celebrity Constellation, I assumed “Crete” meant Heraklion; it did not, and Heraklion is quite a distance from Chania. Chania has some charm and a colorful Venetian port. Several on our Roll Call were on a private tour to see Minoan fortresses and three small villages in the countryside; while it was interesting to see the countryside and coast, this was skippable.

Once back in town (our driver dropped us at the large market where the cruise ship shuttle comes), we then spent two hours in Chania by ourselves, walking the port and entire sea wall out to the lighthouse, window shopping along the streets behind the port, and enjoying the large market.

We were wishing we had rented a car instead and driven to Omalos or the coast. Next time.
