Azorean Enchantments

Recommended Posts

Well the bad news is that we didn't actually get to the Azores due to predicted bad weather and ended up in Casablanca and Arrecife instead. A disappointment for the many people who had booked this because of the itinerary, but Thomson did give us £25 per person onboard credit to help make up for this.

Apart from the above, we had a great cruise. Food was great in both the Compass Rose and the Lido and the entertainment was fantastic, as always.

The Azores are one of the most beautiful places in the world, but winter is winter. Why not a Lisbon/Azores/Madeira cruise in Summer by Thomson ? Or maybe a Lisbon/Azores/Lisbon in 7 days in July/August ?

Agree AzoresW. We went in September 2012 on the Eclipse. We docked in Ponta Delgada and did an island tour - absolutely beautiful. But even in September the weather was a bit mixed. Sunny in the town, but misty as we drove up into the hills :)

Yep , it was a great cruise apart from missing the Azores, but if it was worse than the Perfect Storm we encountered anyway, I'm glad we swerved round Azores. As others have said, we did Casablanca & Lanzarote instead, where I encountered Charlie the Camel from close range - like sitting alongside him, whilst Mrs Don sat t'other side. Charlie knew every bump up that volcano - he didn't miss one. This week we are going to Gran Canaria, La Pama, Funchal, At sea (aren't I always),Fuertaventura, La Gomera, Tenerife & back to sunny North Yorkshire via Newcastle. Haven't met any CCers yet but still looking in Horizons. See y'all :):)

Trust me you only saw a tiny bit of the beauty of one Island. The Azores have 9. In the Summer it's amazing. In the winter you can have some very nice days, but also some rainy days. The first Thomson cruise had some nice weather in the Azores but in the summer is absoluty perfect. Nice temperature around 25-30º. I sure hope Thomson and other start doing this kind cruises in the summer.

We're on the second part of our holiday, staying in Tenerife, having really enjoyed our cruise. We were sorry to miss the Azores, but glad that we missed the weather which was forecast for that area. The seas at the start of last week were bad enough for us!

We had breakfast and dinner in the Compass Rose and lunch in the Lido, all the meals were very good, as was the entertainment. We particularly liked the lunchtime cabaret on the sea days - Johnny Cash with Joe and Gina one day, and Simon and Garfunkel with Joe and Stephen on the other.

Spoke to lots of our fellow passenger and looked for Sailingscots and Don26 in Horizons every time we went the (often!!) but unfortunately didn't see them.

It's raining in Los Cristianos at the moment, hope it's good weather where you are, Don.
