Rainforest/Bird watching ??

I'm trying to find out a way to get to the national park, but do a bird watching tour or just hiking through the rainforest. I noticed that there is a tour that does something similar, but has a butterfly garden and some petting zoo type thing. I am not interested in a man made exhibition. I want the real deal. Does anyone know what I can do that will give me this experience? I know you have to be careful in DR.

does anyone know, is there any reputable transportation right at the port, that will take you right to the national park?
