Lainston House Hotel near Wichester for night before cruising 6-28-08

Yeah it's OK. A sort of old stately home I think out in the countryside. Not particularly close to Southampton or Winchester. Is that what you want - a countryside retreat?

Lainston House is beautiful, Margaret Thatcher, George H Bush, and many others stay there when they are in this neck of the woods. If you are going to have a car I would reccomend staying there, its convenient to Stonehenge (about 35 minute drive away) Winchester center (8 minutes) and Southampton (30 minutes). If you don't want a car but want somewhere nice Hotel Du Vin in downtown WInchester is nice or Wykeham Arms Pub which has lovely rooms across the street from thr pub. In Southampton I would go for the De Vere (http://www.devere-hotels.com/our-hotels/grand-harbour/the-hotel) or Hilton. I live in WInchester and am partial to the Wyk or Lainston depending on whether you want quaint or luxury.
