SAN Francisco tours

Recommended Posts

We are looking at taking a pacific coast cruise on Royal Caribbean and would be in SF from 8am until 4pm the next day. Is it possible to line up our own tours and if so which tour companies do you recommend. We would like to see the highlights of SF, Muir Woods and Alcatraz. Thank you for your help!

I'd be interested as well to see what others suggest. We are in San Francisco for 3 days before flying onto Hawaii. We are currently looking at Big Bus Tours 48 Hour Dynamite Ticket that gives you unlimited use of the HOHO, 3 walking tours + the night time HOHO tour. They also have the Alcatraz Combo ticket but it is cheaper to purchase that on your own. With parking being a nightmare we are looking at the HOHO option.

It's quite easy (and probably a lot cheaper!) to organise your own tours of SF. Alcatraz tours are organised by http://www.alcatrazcruises.com (anyone else offering it is just a reseller). Seeing as you've Muir Woods on your list - which is north of the city on the Marin headland - I'd consider the spooky and atmospheric night tour. If you want to do Muir Woods under your own steam yo could take a ferry to Sausalito and then the shuttle bus http://www.marintransit.org/routes/66.html

SF - despite the complaints of locals(!) - for a US city and certainly a Californian one(!) has great public transit. Grab yourself a Muni card and see the city at your leisure (expect a long wait for cable cars though).

However, I'd recommend jumping over to Trip Advisor and checking out both the tours available and the forum...
