Beautiful day in November (11/11/14) to just lay back and enjoy nature. Started with motor coach (with a/c) ride from pier to river starting point. Trip was narrated by our hosts Reuben and Lucia who gave us history/geography lesson of Belize (formerly British Honduras). Trip was bumpy (or massaging as it was explained (lol!)), bur very interesting. Only 300,000ish inhabit land size of the state of Massachusetts (see? I listened, Reuben!). Very forward-looking country with regards to conservation. Anyway, when we got to our destination, we were able to rent lockers ($5, various sizes to fit most carry-ons), use the facilities and then be fitted for helmets and lifejackets (required safety requirements and, yes, there is someone in a motorized raft checking to make sure we have them on throughout the trip). We grab our donut tubes and head down 15 steps or so for the water. Raoul joins us (without a tube) to guide us throughout the tubing. We are in a group of 6. Raoul points out the local vegetation, iguanas (taste like chicken?) and monkeys along the way. But mostly, Raoul guides us through the rapids (not like white-water rafting at all), as there are numerous rocks to avoid in the rapids. "Bottoms up"! Water was pleasantly refreshing throughout trip. We arrive back at our starting point and after discarding our safety gear, enjoy a meal of nachos/cheese (included in price of excursion). Drinks were extra at ~$4 for beer, unsure of soda/water cost. Enjoyed massage back to ship! Overall, a very relaxing, educational excursion with great hosts in Reuben, Lucia, Raoul! Thanks for the extra hand, Lucia!
