Comments following our Delfin II Adventure

Recommended Posts

We just returned from the second Lindblad voyage on the Delfin II on the Upper Amazon. Wow! What an adventure! Since there is limited information on this trip, we thought some info would be helpful if anyone is considering this trip.

The ship is beautiful. It is extremely well maintained. The Suites & Master Suites are quite spacious with great attention to detail in the decor. There are plenty of outlets for charging camera and things. The giant windows provide great light and views of the Amazon. The bed and chair are very comfortable, but lower than a standard bed, which may be difficult for some folks to get out of. Closet/hanging space is limited and bit unusual.

The Upper deck has the bar and hammock area as well as an area for Nature Talks. There are both chairs and couches as well as a small library of books and videos about the region and the birds.

The Dining Room has wall-to-wall windows on three sides. The place settings are colorful and interesting - different set-up for each meal. All meals are served in the Dining Room at times listed on the Boards at the stairs. (No paper distribution of the day’s activities.)

Skiffs are well maintained an expertly maneuvered through the River and it’s tributaries.

Daily programs are varied. Every morning there is a 6 AM bird watching expedition for the serious birders. Other hikes are usually divided into 3 groups - fast walkers, medium walkers and birders/photographers. There are lots of critter sightings to keep everyone fascinated. The naturalists are all native to the area and very well informed (English is very good, as well). There are also opportunities to swim in the Amazon and visit the villages and schools along the River.

All the food is locally grown, with a few exceptions. You will probably see fisherman selling their fish to the Delfin II and children delivering some vegetables. If it’s really all in the presentation, then the food here is expertly prepared. Every meal is elegant and a sight to behold in addition to being delicious.

The Lindblad leaders the best in the business…enough said.

Glad to answer any questions about the voyage.

I know this was posted awhile back, but thanks for writing this. They are having a webinar, and I thought I would look and see what comments people had about the Delfin II.

Can you tell me if the air conditioning on board was adequate, and could you control that in each cabin?

The air conditioning on board was more than adequate. There were doors between the cabin sections/dining area & the stairs. This kept the hallways to the cabins quite comfortable. Each cabin had it's own control for the temperture. They only thing we had to get used to was that the temperature was in Celsius, so you may want to do that conversion before you go.

Because of the coolness of the cabins, many left their sensitive camera equipment on the open top deck of the ship.

Happy to help. It brings back great memories!
