micruz Posted May 7, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) Does anyone know if the International Student Identity Card (ISIC) is required at most museums or tourist attractions to get a student discount OR can students get discount with their high school ID card & college ID card (both have their picture)? We are from Indiana and it looks like the card can only be obtained for $25 through the website combining it with a MasterCard. Our itinerary takes us to London, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki, St Petersburg, Berlin, and Paris. Thanks for any info on this ISIC card. We just don't know whether to spend the $25. kpytoi9 Posted May 7, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 7, 2014 We got the ISIC card as we noticed last time we traveled to Europe, a regular school ID with a picture was not accepted in most places...
blazeinthesun Posted May 7, 2014 #3 Share Posted May 7, 2014 We just recently secured the ISIC for our DD for our upcoming trip in May with many of the same cities you are going to. We had been told by friends (reliable source) that many of the places offering a discount wish to see that card. It paid off right away for the private tours we booked in five of the cities, saving us nearly $60 just for that (ahead $35 at this point). I was told to ask for the student discount wherever we go, as often they will not advertise it, but may still grant a discount. The MC portion is a prepaid debit, but not necessary to do anything with that. We didn't register or load it. We received the card within 2 weeks of applying for it. micruz Posted May 8, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted May 8, 2014 Thank you for your replies! We ordered the card. Because we are leaving in 2 weeks, we had to pay $35. It's $25 plus $3 shipping plus $7 rush shipping. Seems so gimmicky - hope we can use it to save us some money ... at least $35 worth. :-)
cruis247g Posted May 11, 2014 #5 Share Posted May 11, 2014 I just saw this. Our tour provider in Russia said to bring the student ids. I (perhaps incorrectly?) assumed that they were referring to our kids' school ids Have others had a problem using these?
cruisenshop Posted June 1, 2014 #6 Share Posted June 1, 2014 Our tour in st peterburg thru SPB gave us a substantial discount for the Isic card for our upcoming trip. It's already paid for itself! We plan to use it on our DIY days in oslo, Tallinn and Helsinki!
