We went to Red Stripe Beach last month. It is only 10 minutes away. It is $29 if you book the excursion through Royal. When you get off the ship and go up to a kiosk, they can also sell you a pass to Red Stripe Beach for $29 (no price savings). To pay at the kiosk, they just swipe your room key. So, it is obviously still just Royal Caribbean. The $29 includes the bus ride there and back as well as the beach entrance fee. You still have to pay for chairs.

As our bus approached the beach compound, a man opened the gate. I concluded that they will only allow the RC excursion buses onto the property. When you are ready to leave the beach, there is a waiting area where the buses will take you back to the ship. So, it was clear to me that only RC passengers who bought the excursion are able to come in.

I seriously doubt you can take a cab and be admitted to the beach.

One good thing about waiting to buy the pass at the kiosk (rather then on board) is you can see if the weather is cooperating that day.
