Spectacular Newport

I'm writing to say how much I enoyed Newport. i found this to be one of my favorite ports.

The cliff walk is absolutely lovely---lots of waves crashing against the rocky shoreline. the mansions are interesting, but nature itself gives you a far more spectacular view.

There is quite a bit of history here. The oldest continuously operating library and tavern! Both important stops. I had a great lobster bisque at the tavern (in door and outdoor seating). If I read the information right, the tavern was operated by the same family from the late 1600s through the early 1900s.

We took a tour of the synagogue which was definately the highpoint of the stop. It is -- you guessed it--- the oldest operating synagogue in the United States.

There's something for everyone, even great shopping! The best port for that as well.

I almost didn't get off at this port, and it turned out to be my favorite. Be sure to take in this special destination.

You're preachin' to the choir on this; I love Newport. One of fav place to visit.

The synagogue is Touro Synagogue, 85 Touro St, http://www.tourosynagogue.org/ which was dedicated in 1763.

The tavern is the White Horse Tavern, 26 Marlborough St, http://whitehorsetavern.us/

The library is the Redwood Library, 50 Bellevue Ave, http://www.redwoodlibrary.org/

All are within walking distance of the tender dock. The Redwood Library is the furthest but I believe it and the Touro Synagogue are on the #67 bus route.

If you enjoyed Cliff Walk, did you take an excursion that included a stop at Brenton Point State Park?
