Best way to get to Ardastra

The BEST way is to take a taxi. They are all over the dock area and the price (which I don't exactly know) is set before you go. The only problem with that is that there are very few, to no taxi's at the Zoo when you are ready to return. Several people have said that they had gotten the phone number of the taxi driver and when they are ready to return, they just call and he will come and get you. It is only 1 1/2 miles away from the dock, about a 10 minute ride.

If you want another option, you can take the #10 jitney bus. Tell the driver where you want to go and he will let you off a couple of blocks away. After that it is an easy walk to the zoo. On returning, walk back to the main road (on the other side) and wait for the bus. When we went, we weren't sure where the exact bus stop was, but when we saw the bus coming, we waved and he stopped. They all do this.

Either way is fine.

Cheers

We walked there but it was just my dh and me. I have read recently that there has been some crime in Nassau but we never felt unsafe at all. With small children I would agree that a taxi would be the best way to get there. We had an amazing time there and loved the flamingo show. It's a great place to take kids!

We also walked there, but, as I have said several times since, if we had to do it all over again, we would have opted for the bus. We never felt threatened, but even though the walk is along a very busy road, there were times we were the only ones walking on a block and there was always the thought in our minds, what if............

And yes, the zoo was wonderful, even for us seniors who had no children with us. :D:D:D:D

Do bring your camera as there are great photo ops there.

Are any of taxis handicap accessable with a lift? Does the jitney have a lift? My hubby uses a power chair. We r also thinking of taking his w/c so if need be I can push him Would w/c be easier for taxi or jittney? Thanks for any information.

I'm not really sure but I really doubt it. The jitney, (#10 bus) is like a real old small school bus, very narrow and seats that are very close together. I would also think the taxi's are small cars and really not able to do a scooter or even a wheel chair. if it folds, it MIGHT go in the trunk.

Now, I'm not sure, but there MIGHT be vans that are also on the pier that might be able to accommodate you. Some one else would have to answer that.

You might just want to do a ship's excursion then, they would know if they could accommodate your needs.

Cheers

The last time we were in Nassau, we took an island tour offered through one of the taxi drivers at the gate. It was a van but I don't think it had a lift.
