Sea Day – 15 November 2004

Here we are our first full day at sea! My BF got up and was at the Ship Shape Center at 0630 and he actually had the nerve to wake me up and ask if I was going! I slept in! Since it wasn’t raining but still grey and ugly outside I went out to enjoy our HUGE balcony and got good mornings from our friends Dee and Sandra in cabin9390 next door. Their balcony is angled and has what I think is a better setup for enjoying the sea view but ours is bigger. Last night we ordered room service breakfasts to be delivered at 0830 and after a short chat with Dee we decided to combine our breakfasts on my balcony and to swap the favor during the rest of the cruise. Dee passed two chairs over the rail and we had a great set up for breakfast. My BF and breakfast arrived at the same time ($2 tip to room service) and we had our breakfast feast for four out on the balcony. We ran out of coffee and had to order more but it was a great way to do breakfast!

We headed up to the pool around 1000 and got prime pool chairs adjacent to the pool/dance floor/band stand port side. There were hundreds of empty chairs and I didn’t see a single chair hog. We enjoyed watching the dance class at the pool this morning especially since our friends Chris and Tom were participating. Tom has his inflatable “duck” float and was doing very interesting dance moves with it!! One comment about the pool calypso band – they are not as loud as some pool bands I have had the joy of hearing. I remember on the Carnival Destiny and the Voyager of the Seas that the calypso bands at the pool ALL thought they were AEROSMITH! I liked this group because they played good music at a really good volume where you could still hear yourself think and talk to your pool neighbors.

I had my facial and massage at 1400 so I went to enjoy it. The massage and facial lady was very nice and somewhere along the hour treatment I FELL ASLEEP! It was awesome. When I returned to the pool to visit with my friends they were all having fun until this lady, her kid and possibly her mom show up and decide that they want one of our pool chairs. Mind you, we are sitting RIGHT THERE! This lady just pops her stuff down on one and begins to make herself at home. My friend politely handed the stuff back to her and explained that we were STILL USING OUR CHAIRS! Well this lady pretended to not speak English and proceeded to get her kid ready to go into the pool and that is when my friend again let her know we weren’t leaving. I guess this idiot got the idea we weren’t going to leave so she left in a huff.

Here’s a tip – send one person to get your group the necessary ice show tickets. Renee got ours and we were all set!

Our CC Party was at 1700 in the Blue Note which is in the Viking Crown lounge. The party was nice and was another chance to meet our friends again for drinks. The AOS CC staff gave us free hors de oeuvres and a really neat sea pass holder that you wear around your neck. They also gave us the obligatory CC Pin. Since it was our first formal night we all headed off to get decked out and ready for dinner. My other half and I rented tuxes and we had a couple problems like wrong size shoes and stuff but one call to the ship’s tailor and he personally delivered the correct shoes to our cabin. I got a panicked call from my friend Steve who needed help putting on his tux. SO shortly he and Renee show up at our cabin and we had to put him into and correctly set up his tux! J

Here’s a trick to play on your dining room waiter! Each night starting tonite we rotated our seats clockwise one place!! Kibwe (our waitress) didn’t seem to notice but this didn’t keep her from playing tricks on us!! My friend Sandra ordered the key Lime pie for dessert and when Kibwe delivered it to the table, there was a key, a slice of lime and the word “pie” written on the plate! Too funny!

After dinner we headed to the Lyric theatre for the head liner show and tonight it was Kenny James who was being touted by the ship as the big show because he had won Star Search eleven times or something like that. He was ok and seemed to me to be nothing more than a lounge act. Two shows so far and not one I would ever want to see again!

I spent some time after the show in the casino making my nightly deposit at the craps table. I am also finding a lot of people at the craps table just walking up with five or ten bucks and making one bet. I haven’t seen too many people doing a lot of gambling but maybe that’s because its early in the cruise. Headed to bed where we found our requisite towel animal and found that our cabin attendant had left us our Crown and Anchor coupon books (Platinum for me and Gold for Ron). There is no big difference in the two books other than the platinum book has a buy one picture get one free coupon and a couple more match play coupons for the casino. Oh and we also got our Johnny Rockets coupons tonight.

Today’s High point – falling asleep on the massage table

Today’s low point – idiot at the pool trying to steal our chairs.
