,Can't imagine an unlimited supply of chairs stored onboard.  At some point, i would guess fairly quickly, the chair requests will exceed the supply.  Sooner or later, Princess will reallocate the spare chair room to some other purpose.  So, chairs are available on request FOR NOW.

You may be right or if they get enough requests, maybe they will get smart and put the chair back or some kind of replacement for it.  Seems odd that some ships still have them and some not or maybe they are rethinking.  In the meantime, it seems one of the first things you will have to do when boarding is ask for the chair before others do because they can't be storing an unlimited supply on board.  That would be REALLY stupid!

Just boarded, I have 2 barrel chairs and 1 desk chair. And Im the person who didnt care! :classic_biggrin:

I followed the previous very long thread that discussed the removal of the barrel chairs.  I have just returned from a short 3 day sail on the Emerald from LA to Vancouver.  When we boarded there was no barrel chair in our balcony stateroom.  After reading through the thread and the comments from people who had been in contact with customer relations, including myself, I decided not to bother with asking the steward.  I went straight to the passenger service desk and asked for a chair.  They were great.  The lady immediately called over a crew member and told him I wanted a chair.  He spoke to me about my cabin and said he would send one right away.  It was in my room in less than 1/2 hour.  I still believe that Princess should deal with this issue in reverse.  In other words, if you don't want the chair, you can ask to have it removed.  My only other comment is that the Emerald is heading into dry dock in Victoria.  I am wondering if the chairs will be removed entirely there given that some people have indicated that when they asked the steward for a chair, they were told the chairs were all gone.  Not sure that the stewards know this for sure which is why I went straight to the Passenger Service Desk.  My advice, if you want a chair,  is to go there and ask.  If you don't get one then, well, we certainly can let Princess know that this continues to be an issue and it is a very puzzling decision given that most stateroom house at least two people!  We will be on the Crown in Sept.  I will be reporting back on our experience there.

  3. Just received a brochure from our TA on the new Sky and Enchanted Princess.  Has lovely pictures of all the staterooms.  Balcony stateroom picture has no chair inside and, very cleverly,  a chair on the balcony facing toward the room so that on a quick glance it looks like the chair is in the room.  Right, PCL!  Nice job!   Does this mean they expect us to bring the chair in from the balcony?!

The mini suite shows the sofa.

  4. I don't Tweet, but has anyone started a Twitter thread on this topic?  Just read a note on Princess FB forum about a cruise on the Golden in NZ where the author had trouble finding a seat to drink a cup of coffee because all the available chairs around the various areas were occupied.  Ended up at the very aft end of the ship before being able to find a place to sit.  I wonder how much of this is the effect of the lack of chairs in the staterooms!

  5. I received a call from Princess yesterday.  Reiterated all the points that I put in the e-mail to them.  Audrey was very polite and listened to all my comments but in the end the only response is that the chairs are gone and I can ask my room steward to get one for me.  When I said that I understood that this had been done on several ships and more often than not no chairs were available, she had no  comment.  When I said I would be bringing in a balcony chair, again, no comment.  No apology, no other solutions, only that PCL is monitoring the complaints and concerns.  Unless there is very widespread discontent, not just in this forum, but widespread and perhaps lower bookings, it doesn't sound like they are going to do anything about it.  I made suggestions such as all rooms having a chair with the proviso that it can be removed on request, she said that was too much work for the room steward.  I said more room makes sense if people have 3 or 4 people to a stateroom, but not for two people who either have mobility issues or who enjoy spending some time either eating, reading or relaxing in the stateroom that they paid good money for.  No comment.  I hope they are recording the discussions that people are having on the phone calls.  Lobby, lobby, lobby, people.  I will be on the Emerald in a couple of weeks and I will be visiting the Passenger Services Desk and the Captain's Circle Desk with my concerns.

  6. Here is another scenario.  It is formal night.  Hubby and I are dressed in our finery and have ordered some canapes and a bottle of wine to enjoy in our stateroom prior to the evenings festivities. It is raining outside.  Hmmm.....canapes and wine go on the desk beside the computer.  One of us gets the desk chair....It will be me because I don't want to crush my dress or slip off the bed because the material is shiny and smooth and crushes easily.  Hubby gets the bed or if he was smart, he brought in a deck chair to sit in before the rain started.  Oh, I guess we could bring in the little balcony table.  Perfect.  Now our wine is in glasses on the little balcony table with the plate of canapes crowded in bedside them.  Lovely romantic sight!  A toast to the start of a perfect evening and to Princess for providing the great venue!!  I don't recall being asked if I wanted "more room" and we are Elite "guests".  We are booked on the Emerald at the end of March and I sure hope we get on board fast enough to get our dibs in on the very few extra chairs that MAY be available.

Just on the Ruby Princess in a balcony room and noticed the small barrel chair was missing from the room - all you have to sit on is the awful little desk/makeup chair. I asked customer service about the removal and they said they removed the chairs to give you more space... I told them if they removed the beds we would have lots of room!

My wife is a little upset about no chair to sit and read her book - Thoughts...

I agree.  We were on the Majestic in November and missed that chair a lot!  We thought it was something new on that ship being that it was the newest ship and I forgot to mention it in my survey.  We will be on the Emerald at the end of March and if it isn't there, I will be making a complaint and comment on the survey for sure!
