  1. Jewel class ships have a slightly different set up. The common areas have the same therapy pool and heated stone loungers. The difference is where the sauna and steam rooms are located. It's not coed like the breakaway is. I love the sauna on these as they over look the whole side of the ship. I've heard there is a small sauna off the side of the gym but never used it since I had the spa pass. Maybe he could check out the free option before he commits to a spa pass.

  2. Freeport seafood off the dockyard is your place. It is the last restaurant as you are walking away from the docks, about 10 minutes. Bar is in the back of the restaurant. The owner, Valario is bermudian and has lots of stories and history. If he offers to make you a salad, take it.. Greens are fresh from his garden. The bar patrons are mostly local with their own stories to tell. The three times we went last July, we couldn't wait to relax at his bar with a few dark n stormys at the end of the day. A lot of cruise ship crew stop in there for carry out beverages so that's a good indication of fair prices. You'll love it even if you only make it there once.

  3. I wish NCL would mirror Caesar's Total Rewards program.

I am seeing this trend with all casinos. Less benefits with attaining tier. It's helping me diversify my valuable vacation time and money. i used to frequent Atlantic City, but lost the valued feeling as diamond status perks were cut. I happily platinum. Then tried out NCL (thanks to Caesars). Earned Golden my first year. I still have a cruise planned this year, but I have other land non-casino trips planned. It's not that I am swearing off gambling or cruising, I'm just seeing less value in budgeting the bankroll I use to. I hope NCL doesn't go the way of Atlanic City. Not that it's comparable, since cruising wasn't built on casino spending, but it's certainly a large part of their revenue.

  4. Not online. The casino host on each ship would tell me my point balance for that cruise and past cruises. Hate to admit, but if I were close to reaching a tier level, I would play a bit longer. With benefits for tier level disappearing, I guess I don't have to worry about that!

  5. Mid30's here and have done both itens. In colder, windy weather, ropes course on Breakaway is closed. San Juan is all about walking and culture. St Johns is a cheap and quick ride from st Thomas. St Marteen has too many options to list. Tortola is just okay.

I'd chose Gem again unless Bermuda were an option.

  6. So, I called in to make my rez and was making sure I'm golden this year with my 15,030ish points earned from last year and the phone rep said it's 15,500. Website still says 15000 so I printed the page. Just hoping I am golden for November.

  7. Agree to everyone's comments. I see no reason to maintain my golden status. On my November cruise, I will just use my partners players card to get his status up to hot (he's half way there), then stop playing. Probably means I will cruise less with NCL. Seems like a good time to diversify our casino budget.

  8. Thanks, Stephen and Harriet. We are in a balcony. I won't expect anything but I will keep my eye out for greeters and just tell anyone that even looks like an employee about the golden status. Obviously I'm very excited about reaching this and I don't want to miss out.

Same attitude about Cagneys breakfast/lunch. Also, I don't smoke, but they will give me a pack of cigs each day? That seems nuts, lol Once onboard, I wills speak to the host. Are they also considered my concierge?

Been on Breakaway twice and this time will be my first on gem. I made golden midway through my last sailing and breakaway hosts were very kind.

  9. Thanks, Sue. My first cruise was from a Caesars certificate. The small print on that was no two rooms but could combine certs and get upgraded.

I just discovered the family ocean view on breakaway so that's an option we are considering also.

  10. I was on Breakaway Oct '13 and was not charged 3% for cash withdrawal via slot machine. The next trip a few weeks ago, I had to agree to the 3% fee each time I withdrew. It was an extra step in the withdraw process that I know I did not have for the Oct '13 trip. Something definitely changed between trips. With all of the withdrawals and points earned, the host later removed the fees, after asking on the last day.

  11. Not sure if this is on topic.. was wondering if anyone has experience with a partner that plays about the same as themselves and have been able to get two rooms, one under each player. We are hoping to bring our neices on our next trip and would like them in their own room. TIA

  12. Perhaps I wasn't clear previously. There are three ways to pay your fare on buses and ferries. By coin token, paper ticket or transportation pass. Both bus and ferry will take any one of these options. The coin tokens and transportation passes are available at the booth in the dockyard. The 15 paper tickets for $30 are only available at Hamilton bus center.

  13. I just got back today. I had these same questions about tickets. We decided to take the bus from Dockard to st George. It takes a bit more time but buses run more frequently than ferrys so it may have been a wash. When you buy your token from the dockyard, tell the attendant your final destination ($4 for a 14 zone). When you board the bus, tell the driver you final destination and they will give you a free transfer. When you make your transfer in the Hamilton bus transfer station, the ticket office is right there, between all the buses. Buy your 14 zone, 15 pack for $30. We used these for the two of us during the three days on buses and ferries. The last day we were short a ticket and the dockyard attendant sold us a three zone ticket for $2.50 since we were only going to Daniels head. Of course you may the day passes easier.

  14. Can someone confirm tickets are still available for sale in St. George? My last set was bought at st george and we plan to go there the first day via ferry.

    Thank you!

Does anyone know if the 15 tickets booklet is available for purchase in St. George? We also plan to go there first day via ferry and would like to avoid going through Hamilton just to buy these tickets. Thanks!

  15. It's really no different than in any other port or staying in a hotel in another country (after all, you have no idea who has stayed in the cabin/room prior to you and what they may have left behind).

Good points. Perhaps my mind wondered when reading the article. Still though, I bought a $10 cheapo cam on amazon. I'm sure I'm being overly cautious, and at that price, may not even work. With 4000 passengers, odds are good that nobody will forget their stash or a rogue crewmember will hide anything in my cabin.

  16. When I saw them they were with security. Bermuda reports they only do it when the passenger is present. remember each time your cabin is opened who opened it is recorded. the halls are monitored so any one entering you room would be seen.

My nanny cam will be recording who enters my cabin and what they are doing also. This survalence issue goes both ways. I don't plan on needing it however this news makes me nervous.

  17. I also find this quote troubling from the article above, especially if under different circumstances the crew member in question did not come forward and the passenger ended up being charged. At the end of the day Bermuda can do what they want and it is legal, though I think it will still steer law abiding tourists away from the island and in the end it seems very clear that this policy is designed to make money and not to crack down on crime.

I guess I'll be packing a nanny cam.

  18. I got a postcard from CAS and signed up for breakaway in July. I understood the postcard to read that they will take the highest score of three sessions on that cruise to win the top prize of 10k. That person is eligible to move on to the next round for a million and would be playing with other top winners from the other cruises listed on the postcard.
