  1. Hi Lorsin

I will be on board, busy looking at the weather stats for each place we are visiting. From UK we have limited luggage allowance which is a challenge at 20kilos. It is a factor and limits options for evening wear.

My daughter had an MRI last Saturday15th, and the news is bad, Tumor at the base of her brain, extending to and around her spinal cord, surgery Monday 24th, I am not sure if Jeannie was allowed to keep her booking without me, I can only hope so!

Do enjoy the cruise, and have a few coldies for me! That's Aussy speak for drinks! Lorraine Sinclair

  2. Sure to meet up on board, there are only 350 passengers, if shes' full.. Remember dinner now is open dining , so no set time.

I will look out for you both. Happy packing.... Karen

Packing is almost sorted, I have bought a mini travel hair straightener, so gave it a good workout this morning to be sure I can handle it well enough! not to bad, as long as I am not in a big hurry. almost there, getting excited now, see you on board at some time, cheers Lorraine.

  3. Today I purchused packing cubes for my clothing and rolled them into neat little balls, and I was able to fit all my clothing in about half of one side of my carry on which was an accomplishment!!!! I went though my clothes and chose things I could mix and match for day and night which worked well. I packed 4 pairs of shorts that I can wear with multiple things... This might not be as bad as I though....I just need to find out if the hair dryers on the Breeze is full size... My dryer takes up so much room, but the travel sizes tend to eat my hair. My husband normally ends up cutting my hair out of them.

they don't let you take hair driers on board, or irons, confiscated at boarding! supplied ones are quite reasonable.

Hello there, how is the weather looking? That was one of the first things I checked, I am not into the full on evening wear, one cocktail dress, black pants and glimmer tops otherwise, all are roll up, so no crushing, it's the covered shoulders for visiting temples that I have had to think about, here in sunny Queensland, sleeveless is the go. My cabin share is from England, we hooked up on this site.

Would you care to meet up for pre dinner drinks in the Shackelton Bar first night on board? I shall be carrying a dark red leather glasses case with flower motif, mid 60's, short brown hair, female, Lorraine is my name, and Jeannie my cabin mate.

    Cheers for now.

  5. No Reply as yet! 3 months out, and looking forward to this cruise. I am looking at Visa's for Sri Lanka and Burma, I know the ship covers for their excursions, but I might want to go for a wander on my own, or dinner on shore at overnight ports! I fly in early hours of the 4th, but have arranged hotel and transfers, It's a long haul from Australia, and to fly in during the day was almost twice the cost, and as Minerva does not sail till the 5th, there shouldn't be problems if my flight is delayed.

Anyone else on this cruise to meet for drinks first night on board? Lorraine

Less than 2 months to go, and getting excited!

I am about to sort visa's, Have bought a nice cocktail dress for formal wear, not really in need of that sort of dress at home, but did enjoy shopping, sparkly tops and dress black pants are what I go for. still looking for tops with sleeves to cover shoulders, as required for temple visits, only one at present, as here in Queensland, sleevless is best in the heat. Looking forward to shopping in Singapore for Christmas gifts. Cheers Lorraine

  6. Can anyone that's been on the "serenade are of seas" give us ins/outs of the ship? Tips? Suggestions?

Did a cruise last September 2013, loved the ship, Our inside cabin level 4 was close to the Atrium Bar, Elevators, Internet, one floor up to the Main Dining, coffee shop.

Take the time when you first board to wander around and find everything, work out direction from your cabin, then you will not waste time trying to get there later. Anytime dinning worked for us, although one night sat at a table for 12, couldn't really talk to everyone, and they mostly had been there a half hour before us, so we did up to 6 and get seated together, chat to those in line with you to see if they are after dinner company to.

We did private excursions, or wandered on our own, only one day not happy about, but did really well with all else. Pool, Solarium, Hair salon, Massage, find a nice bar for pre dinner drinks, Schooner Bar? I think it was called, Great Piano player, the specialist dinning are off this bar, loved the Murder Mystery dinner, but then I am very into theatre as a past Stage Manager. My friend was new to it, and if anything she enjoyed her first experience more so!

We had 2 tendered ports, level 2, and not knowing any better, even when given a number, we went down there to wait, and were put onto a tender straight away, so we did it the second time, expecting to be asked our number and told to wait, but again, put straight on a tender, no questions asked! So, just enjoy, at's a fabulous ship! Lorsin.

  7. Anyone else doing this cruise? so looking forward to this sailing, mid winter here, and wishing I had a closer trip planned! Must not complain, Queensland weather is good all year round. Losin

  8. Grand Hyatt in Dubai has several restaurants at varying price points and tastes.

try the dinner cruise on the creek, we did, and loved it, menu to choose from, air conditioned, and really good service, include a car pick up and return, loved it. ship called Bataeu I think? Lorsin, from Australia.

  9. Just polling the peanut gallery to see if I typically under-pack or over-pack.

What shoes do you typically bring on a cruise? Feel free to differentiate between male or female, cold-weather and warm-weather, or between under ten and over ten days (or weekenders or longer voyages).

    Thanks for the help!

3 pairs for a 16 night cruise with 7 day after stops, started by choosing basic colours for outfits, blue and white, dark blue sketchers, for all the walking and site seeing, dark orange sandles for on board, meal times etc, and black glittery low heels for formal/semi formal dining. I have back problems, hence more sensible shoes. worked really well, took the hint about cloths colour, added a few pop colours in my tops, as anything goes with white and dark blue!

Planning another cruise end of year, will take an extra pair of light coloured sketches this time but basically stick to same formular for packing, also left me the room to pack souvenirs, even one extra pack for my friend, as she was slightly full up, not over weight, just a smaller bag, she has since purchased something slightly bigger. cheers, Lorsin from Australia

  10. As I am? I am never happier then when I lay that lovely deposit on a cruise, that means I get to obsess...er...plan and research to my hearts content.

I've planned 3 friends cruises and airfare and when their TA couldn't get a good price, she gave them the prices I had sent them. (Apparently she was really embarrassed!)

I don't say this for bragging, I'm not that way. However, I want to know my fellow OCD cruise friends.

    And you are....

I am also ocd with planning, have a cruise in early December, still getting Visa's sorted, found a cheap hotel close to the airport, as I fly in just after midnight, solo, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, wanted transfer for safety, and the hundreds of little details, have sourced a river cruise for one friend and I for 2015, and an adriatic cruise for 2016 with another friend, the only time slots for them. I find I can relax better when the cruise time arrives, knowing everything I want to do is sorted and waiting. Also tend to source the best flights myself and tell my TA what I want, she just takes care of booking it all, even told her last year of price drop on cabins for September cruise, resulting in a $1400 refund. Love it! Lorraine
