  1. Pleased to hear you had such a wonderful time. And isn't it always the way that the things which concern us before our first cruise just slot into place and we find our own way of enjoying the experience and making the most of our cruise? Are you planning another trip soon? ;)

Thing is, this wasn't my first cruise, just first one with p&o, so was a little bit apprehensive regarding the freedom dining and the all important dress code haha. I will definitely be using p&o again though and have been looking since we came back. 🙂

  2. Delighted you had a lovely time, bellablot and also enjoyed the formal nights. I also think it's really a special atmosphere when everyone is dressed up.

Just a question re your waiting in a bar with your pager... can you take your drink with you into the restaurant when you are called if you haven't finished it?

Yes, we took our drinks in and it was absolutely fine. 🙂

  3. Well we returned from our cruise yesterday and have to say it was brilliant, the ship is gorgeous and the staff looked after us perfectly.

We hired some dinner suits the day before we went from a place in Newcastle and did the formal night on both evenings, and glad we did it, the nights we didn't do it we wore smart, dark jeans and shoes with a smart polo shirt and was absolutely fine as the majority did that too, on formal night it was fab to see everyone dressed to the nines.

We did the freedom dining and just picked up a pager to wait until a table for four was free (in the Saffron Dining Room) and waited with a pre-dinner drink in one of the nearby bars. They always tell you the wait is 45-60 mins but it was always nearly a 20 min wait tops.

Will definitely use P&O again, everything from checking in, embarking to the dreaded disembarking at the finish ran like clock work. :)

  4. Dark jeans are fine, I don't think there is much in my casual wardrobe that hasn't come from Next and I seem to fit in without too much tutting lol

Haha, glad to hear it, thanks for your input too. Have only experience Thomson Cruises thus far, so booked P&O on impulse as always wanted to try one of their 'bigger' ships. Just don't want to experience any fashion faux pas or have any embarrassment when on board. :)

  5. Why not take your light grey suit and make your decision once on board. The best meals served in the Main Dining room are on for so nights. Such a shame to miss out on the gala dinners. A light grey suit with shirt and tie will be absolutely fine. Dark jeans on casual night are absolutely fine. Just be comfortable and enjoy your holiday. I love the dressing up, hubby tolerates it but there is no way he would miss the gala dinner.

    Have a great cruise.

So to recap, dark jeans would be fine on non formal nights in the main dining room? I'm not bothered about gala nights or formal nights or whatever so will be absolutely fine to avoid them on those nights, I can see why people enjoy them, however not for me!

    Thanks .

Never thought my light grey suit would be so controversial . We are off for 28 nights on Celebrity Eclipse on 01 November, light grey suit and all

I think you can blame me for lighting the blue touch paper. :D I won't be the first and certainly not the last to have the jitters on what not to wear etc!

  6. Dress wise a large majority on the ship will be following the dress code.

If you chose not to follow the dress code, on formal nights, you will be in the minority. Also there will be some bars you are not allowed in. On Ventura I do not know which bars that would be.

On non formal nights your grey suit will be fine.

Your comment about not buying a dark suit to please p an o, it is not to please p and o.

The line is known for having a dress code. Why book the holiday and then complain.

There are other lines which have a less strict dress code.

As has been posted if you do not wish to dress up on formal nights you can eat in the buffet, or possibly select dining (at a cost). We do where to the dress code so I am not 100% sure on the select dining.

Is your wife coming with you ,I am sure when she sees all the other ladies dressed up, with their dressed up men, she will wish you had made the effort.

It is always men who complain about the dress code, never ladies.

No one is complaining, so please don't make this out to be something it isn't. Only here to ask for advice. :)

  7. We had no problems with the Seven Seas restaurant getting a table for two last week, we just asked the Maitr'd and waited on the chairs by the lift and he would signal when one was free. We waited no longer that 10-15 mins, though some people said they waited ages.

Be prepared for some death stares though as people think you've jumped the queue! :D

Also saw some highly rude behaviour from a 'gent' old enough to know better, turned up at the Seven Seas in shorts and was told to either go back and change into trousers or was free to use the buffet instead. Was such a pity to see him acting like a petulant child and swearing at the Maitr'd.

  8. Only used the late buffet a few times, the chicken curry (and the beef curry for that matter) made for a lovely supper! Mmmmmm! :p

Ate in the dining room a few times, the massive one, Seven Seas? The menu was very similar if not the same as the Dream from last summer, however we treated ourselves to the T-Bone steak on Thursday night and it was fab, a bit shy with the chips though! :D

A very pleasant cruise, a lovely ship, with a great crew, they were severely tested on the first night with the bad weather in Santa Cruz and were just wanting everyone off the bus onto the ship, no labels or anything on luggage, cue a lot of anxious passengers who thought they weren't going to get their luggage, however they managed to pair cases with cabins going from the flight check in labels.

  9. We had an email this afternoon from Thomson to say that the Majesty will no longer be stopping in Lanzarote on the Colourful Coasts trip (28th November from Tenerife) and instead will visit Fuerteventura.

It doesn't bother me too much but Mr C is disappointed at missing Arrecife as we missed it last year when on the NCL Spirit due to bad weather.

The reason given is that it will be too busy at the port.

I'm just relieved we have an alternative because I was worried about having an extra sea day!

I'm going on the same cruise and read the email earlier too, I'm not that bothered, in fact I was pleased as never been to Fuerteventura before, however I thought the reason they gave for the itinerary change was a funny one, how have they suddenly realised this?:D

  10. I do not believe there is any problem taking alcohol aboard the IE... Other than why would you want to on an all inclusive ship that even lets you take your on board duty free purchases back to the cabin.:).

Ditto. We've never had any trouble but we didn't bother this year, why drag a load of heavy bottles from the supermarket when you don't have to. The AI drinks are strong as the middle aged woman who was crawling around on the carpet on her hands and knees in late afternoon can vouch. It wasn't me either, disgusting behaviour.:D:D

    Jan

    Keep forgetting it's AI! :o

  11. I'm also on this cruise on Tuesday!

What's the deal taking own alcohol on this ship? Was on the Dream last year and had no issues. Just wondering if this ship might have a different policy/approach.
