  1. Hi All,

We are considering 'splashing out' on the Ultimate Beverage Package on our upcoming NCL Getaway Cruise.

Does anyone know the current cost of a Corona Beer or a cocktail onboard?

I have searched but only found some very dated information which I assume no longer applies.

Trying to work out whether we are better served paying for drinks on an individual basis or pre-booking the UBP?

    Thanks

    Chris

  2. Hi All,

I have cruised with Princess, P&O and Royal Caribbean in the past and loved them all.

Considering Norwegian Getaway in November but have two quick questions:

Do Norwegian offer a drinks package? I am particularly keen on the Princess Ultimate Kids Package as I do not drink alcohol and wondered if there is any equivalent on Norwegian?

Also - Can gratuities be removed as with other lines?

    Thanks for your help!

  3. Hi All,

I have taken a number of cruises from Fort Lauderdale but may be departing from Port of Miami for my next cruise.

Can anyone recommend the best/closest option which is suitable for a 1 night stay pre-cruise?

    Thanks in Advance

  4. I have cruised a number of times booking through a UK Travel Agent travelling to the Caribbean

If you are not 'fussy' about which ship you want to go on then it is fairly easy (and seems significantly cheaper) to book a flight covering your chosen sailing dates independently.

From July 2014 onwards Norwegian airlines are operating a twice weekly direct flight between Gatwick and Fort Lauderdale for approx half the cost Virgin and BA currently offer - I am booked in November for £360 return.

I am then using a website to track the price of multiple sailings during my stay in Fort Lauderdale - CruisePriceTracker, com

If I booked the cruise now I could get a 10 day trip for less than £1,000 but hope to get a better rate on the cruise as sailing date gets closer (Received a price drop notification today!)

Ask the US Travel agent to use their own US address. This is just a formality as far as I understand and no documentation is sent to the US address.

    Good Luck!

  5. Hi Mivvit,

A colleague of mine asked to use an address I hold in the United States as this got them a beneficial cruise fare compared to using a UK address.

I was assured that there would be no documents, etc arriving at the address and it was merely a formality that the travel agent needed a US address to be able to process the booking.

Hope that gives you some sort of reassurance

  6. Hi All,

Not sure of the exact details but it does seem that US/Canadian residents get the best prices available.

A colleague of mine recently asked if they could use the address of my holiday home (in Fort Lauderdale) to book a Celebrity Cruise.

This apparently got them a significant saving on what they would have paid using a UK address.

  7. Good advice!

I'll add a few more tips:

    - You can save more money on the day you book than any other day. Choose a moderate cabin, choose off-season. These choices equal more than any small choices you will make later.

    - When you're watching for price drops, don't look at JUST your ship and category. Once we switched from Freedom to Liberty and shaved $$$$$ from our bill -- is there really a difference between the ships? Another time we had booked two connecting ocean views for ourselves and four girls . . . But they offered a great sale on balconies, and we switched to three E1 balcony rooms for LESS money (that was not a typical occurrence). Always look up and down a notch to see all your options!

    - Book early, preferably the very day your dates come available. This won't really save you money, but it'll allow you to grab a prime cabin (whether you think that's an aft or a hump cabin, I'll let you decide for yourself). These cabins are in short supply, and they genuinely do make a trip nicer . . . But they go fast.

    - If you're buying insurance (and I do), don't buy it through the cruise company. By doing it independently, you can spend less, and you can get JUST what you need. We drive ourselves, so we don't need lost luggage insurance. Our medical is good outside the country, so we don't pay for that either. We do pay for medical evac.

    - Bring your own soft drinks. You can bring all you can drink in a week for the cost of one day's soda package.

    - Bringing a small amount of alcohol is very easy and will save you a bit of money. If you use moderation and pack carefully, you are unlikely to be caught.

    - Buy a sun shelter that you can set up on the beach instead of renting a shelter. I saw them yesterday at Academy Sports for $40. It was big enough to provide sun shelter for four comfortably and could probably be set up in 5 minutes. I have something similar that I bought from ebay years ago.

    - Always choose private excursions. Not only are they less expensive, you'll be in a smaller group and will have more control over your day.

    - Don't feel that you must buy a suitcase of new clothes for your trip. Few people pay much attention to how others dress.

Some great tips here which I will be sure to use on my next cruise in November 2014

Just to expand on the point about booking at the right time.

I have come across a website which tracks the price of cruises free of charge and emails whenever there is an alteration (either cheaper or more expensive)

    CruisePriceTracker,com

I am tracking two cruises for November and waiting for the price of one to drop before putting a deposit down.

This may also help customers who have already booked a cruise to upgrade to a different cabin at minimal expense or claim OBC they are owed due to a decrease in prices

Hope this helps others out there - Good Luck!

    Chris

  8. Hi All,

Some great tips here which I will certainly look to take with me on my November cruise!

As some people are suggesting ways of saving money I am using a website to track the price of various cruises - CruisePriceTracker, com

I will be leaving Fort Lauderdale 29th/30th November and I am waiting for the best deal to come through before booking anything up!

Hope this helps others get a good deal too!

  9. Hi All,

Booking a flight early can save a significant sum (especially in a larger group)

I have booked flights into Fort Lauderdale on 28th November 2014.

I am tracking a number of desirable cruises which leave Fort Lauderdale 29th/30th November through a website - CruisePriceTracker, com

This site is free of charge and sends email alerts when there is movement in the price of a sailing

As and when a price decreases on one of my preferred sailings I will be in a position to snap up a low cruise fare to match my cheap flight.

I don't suspect there will be a great deal of movement in cruise fare until closer to sailing

Hope this helps you all bag a good deal!

  10. Hi Guys,

I have found and used a new website which tracks the price of cruises free of charge:

    CruisePriceTracker,com

Not only did the site save me checking the price of my preferred sailing on a daily basis it also saved me a few hundred Dollars which I enjoyed spending onboard at the Crown Grill on my recent Caribbean cruise

    Hope this helps

We have a list of cruises that we want to do. We do them based on getting a very attractive fare. We get to the point where we understand what is a good fare, what is our 'target' fare, and then we keep checking.

Usually we keep an eye two ships, sometimes three on a given itinerary. We typically end up book inside the cancellation window, and always a balcony. Sometimes the target price only hits for a day or so and is gone.

We booked a 14 day Caribbean cruise over Christmas this week. We had a target price of as close to $100-110./day, inclusive of taxes, for a balcony. We were watching HAL, Celebrity, and Princess. Our number hit so we booked. And we book with a good on line agent and typically get an OBC that just about covers our gratuities. This is how we have done our last three Med cruises.

We do the same with independent land trips. It works for us because we are both retired and can spend the time on it. Delaying our South Africa land trip by a year resulted in a savings of 20 percent simply because of currency fluctuations. Same for a recent Greece and Turkey trip. The time to go is when demand is down and your home currency is strong vis a vis the country you are travelling to.
