  1. Can't seem to get the quote thing to work tonight, but what's a "weird clean smell"?? Isn't that just no smell?

Also, I'd love to have an indoor/outdoor bar venue that allows smoking. Double sealed, vented to the outside at the back of the ship, (above and away from aft cabins) far away from any other public place so as not to annoy anyone.

I'm sure it's not a popular opinion, but why not give smokers a place, away from everyone else, where they can enjoy their cruise too. I know plenty of crew, both musicians and bartenders, that smoke as well. They could volunteer to work there so as not to subject non-smoking crew to the second hand smoke.

  2. !) Good craft beers on Draft

    2) Good craft beers in bottles/cans (IPA's is a good start)

    3) Good snacks (free) in pubs/ where beer is served/sold

    4) Allowed to bring on a six pack of beer

    5) Beer tasting

    6) Pizza and beer night

    Would be nice.

    I'm sensing a theme here. :D

Love #3. The only place I've seen that is the Schooner Bar. It was a Chex mix kind of thing, and then only if you asked for it.

  3. Best cabin I had on breakaway for smoking convenience was balcony 8780 first cabin near fat cats short walk for morning smoke

    Geri

Could you look out your balcony and see the water, or was there a lifeboat below your balcony?

Also, it looks like there's a public bathroom next to the cabin. Did you hear doors slamming, toilets flushing, etc?

  4. Scratch #2 off your list, this happens on almost every RCL cruise. #3 does happen....on the Suite deck....K.O.:)

It's been a couple years since we cruised RC but I don't ever remember seeing the staff much. I know they'd occasionally do a charity walk on deck and of course the Meet the Staff Q&A.

I'll have to check out the battery powered candles and clock. Don't need the alarm so much as just an idea of what time it is.

Funny story, my first cruise was a "Happy Divorce" cruise with a girlfriend. She worked 3-11 pm at a hospital so we went out for drinks after her shift, slept for 3 hours and then jumped on a flight to CA for our cruise. We had a great first day and then went to bed in our inside cabin. (This was before bow cams.)

I'd wake up, it's pitch dark, back to sleep. Wake up, still pitch dark, back to sleep. Finally, after feeling like I'd slept forever I got up and looked at my watch. It was 2 pm the next day! We'd slept through half the day.

  5. Some times it's the little things that matter.

We recently went on our first cruise with Celebrity. My mom took my husband and I, and my brother and his family, on a cruise to Bermuda on the Celebrity Summit.

DH and I hadn't cruised in a number of years (we moved, got new puppies, etc.) but hey, who's going to pass up a free cruise! I was curious to see what the difference was between the lines. Even if I had to put up with my brother for a week...

These are the top three perks that I noticed on the trip:

    3. Icy towels passed around on deck on sea days and at the boarding area when we came back to the ship.

    2. Accessibility of the ship's staff. The Captain was regularly at functions around the ship, including a Staff vs. Guest pool volleyball tournament which was hysterical. They also did a Staff vs. Guest Minute to Win It challenge and other activities.

    1. THERE WAS A BUILT-IN NIGHTLIGHT IN THE BATHROOM!!

This probably sounds so trivial, but it was so nice to be able move around at night without walking into walls or banging my shins on something. And I didn't get blinded by having to actually turn on the bathroom light.

(Yes, I'm simple and often get distracted by shiny objects.)

So there you have it, my top three things I wish RC would do/have. What things have you experienced or thought of that would make your awesome cruise just that much better? :)

  6. The slot is right by the door and there is plenty of light from the hallway to find it. Also, the A/C will turn off with the balcony doors open.

As for smoking areas, I believe you can smoke at the outdoor Sunset bar. There is also a designated area near the pool bar. Inside, there is the cigar bar, next to Sunset.

Sorry, but I did not save dailies this time.

The whole card thing seems bizarre, but oh well, it won't stop me from trying NCL.:D

Thanks also for the smoking info.

  7. I don't think the lights work without it, so I doubt you'll forget to put it in at night. :)

So your cabin has no power unless you put the card in? How strange. What happens when you walk into you cabin late at night?

And how do you find the slot if there are no lights?

  8. Also another question, and I hope I don't offend... My husband and I both smoke. Did you notice any bars where people could actually sit at the bar and smoke?

I've heard the Sunset Bar on 8 and rumors of possibly the Vibe Bar and Spice H2O bar. Could you confirm this?

  9. Environmentally friendly I suppose, but sounds annoying overall. I'd like my room to be cool when I come back.

So if we forget to put it in at night the AC will turn off on us? Any idea what the time frame is?

Is there a nightlight in the bathroom at all? The only plus I found on my first Celebrity cruise! Such a little thing, but I certainly appreciated it every night.

  10. Can anyone who recently sailed on the Freedom tell me if you can actually smoke at the bar itself?

I've seen the RC website that says one side of the bar allows smoking, but I'd like to know if that means that there's a smoking area next to the bar, or can you actually sit at the bar and have a cigarette.

  11. we had ports canceled after we arrived! ( mostly tender ports)

We had one time at Grand Cayman where we took one of the first round of tenders over and they never let us out of the "paddock" on the island. We waited for about 20 minutes and they told everyone to get back on the tenders. They took us back to the ship and that was it. They cancelled the stop. The seas were really rough.

We didn't even tender to the middle of town like normal, but to a large gravel lot on the south shore of the island. Never had that happen before.

  12. On Freedom, the pool smoking area was port side (deck 11) and starboard at the Sky Bar (deck 12).

Resurrecting an old thread instead of making a new one...

Can you smoke at the Sky Bar itself, on the starboard side, or is there a seating area on the side that is the designated smoking area?

Can you smoke at the little "shelf" area in front of the Sky Bar? Only on the starboard side, of course.

  13. I don't think you can actually get married "at sea." You have to be at an actual port. You can get married on the ship in NY before you leave, or you can plan a wedding in San Juan, or other port, during the cruise. The only problem with booking a wedding in port while on a cruise is that there could be a weather event, etc. that messes with the arrival/departure time of that port, or you could miss the port entirely.
