You aren't willing to travel to Miami?

We've sailed several times out of Miami in the past year, and we flew to (and stayed in) Fort Lauderdale.  The Uber from there is quite reasonable.

No I am not.  I live just 10 miles north of FLL and a trip to Miami to get on and off a cruise is not something I want to start doing.

  2. I just received the Premier offer in the mail yesterday. I received the same offer via email early last week....and booked my January cruise then. The casino hosts have told me that they fill up early and if they disappear from the website, the Premier offer for that cruise has filled up and is no longer available. Wouldn't hurt to call the casino hosts and tell them you are interested in case someone cancels.

  3. :)Go the AARP website and click on rewards for good. You have to earn points doing quizzes and such. Then you get $10 off a $100 or $50 off a $500 gift card. I just snagged 4 of the big ones and my cruise is paid for, with a discount of $200.

  4. Visit the National Hurricane Center website for up to date info. I am in South Florida and there is a tropical wave (not a hurricane) headed our way by the weekend. They are predicting heavy rain and perhaps high winds, but the National Hurricane Center will give you updates two or three times daily.

  5. I use a product made by Emergencee, the folks who make the powdered vitamin c. The product I use is called Electromix. It is sodium free, calorie free and sugar fee. It has a slight lemon lime flavor. You just take a packet and dump it into a bottle of water, shake it up and drink it. Works really well. You can buy it very inexpensively on Amazon.com. Also carrying around these small packets is a lot easier than lugging around bottles of Gatorade.

  6. I just returned from the final Fort Lauderdale -- Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Freedom. I booked a suite but got crap instead. I had no hot water in my cabin for four of the eight days on board and on top of that, the bathroom smelled like an open sewer the entire trip. I had to pack up my stuff and go take a shower at the Spa showers. I gagged every time I entered the bathroom. And, yes , I did inform Guest Services to no avail. It was awful and now I am really sick and have been running a fever and coughing terribly ever since stepping off the boat.

I feel for you because my experience sucked also.:(

  7. I was on that cruise and Monday when I arrived home, I started coughing really bad and developed a fever. Have been in bed all week. I did not fly on an airplane and I was not sick at all onboard. I believe I caught whatever this is on the ship. Taking vitamin c to ease the symptoms, and cannot take anything else because it lowers my blood pressure. Yuck. Wish everyone gets well soon, this is awful.:(

  8. I do solo cruises always. Hubby does not like cruises. So we go on various vacations together, but when I want to cruise, I go alone. Love it! You have time to do whatever you want whenever you want. Want to sleep til Noon, go ahead and do it. Want to have ice cream for breakfast, go ahead. There are plenty of opportunities to meet other people, but if you want "me" time, this is absolutely the best way to do it. I love sitting on my balcony and reading. I love having time to pamper myself. You will absolutely have a grand cruise. Enjoy it!

  9. Don't see why people are upset about not being able to sail on Freedom out of Ft. Lauderdale. Cruised that ship last October and was not impressed at all. Even with the dry dock improvements, it will not be much better. Rusted out balconies, worn out furniture in the suite, I thought the whole ship was crappy. And adding a Guys Burger and an EA Sports Bar is not going to improve it in my opinion. There is no way they could do the improvements and repairs it needed in that short time at dry dock. If I were you, I would be happy that you did not have to sail on Freedom.

  10. It is a long haul from Galveston to IAH. You should have booked your flights into Houston Hobby, which is much closer. From Galveston to IAH is 72.5 miles. That airport is actually way north of Houston. A cab from IAH to Galveston would cost a huge amount.
