  1. We used Dover Royal Taxis getting to Dover from Gatwick and back, as well as getting to the Dover cruise port from our Dover hotel. They were excellent! The driver was waiting for us each time with a sign bearing our name, the vehicles were nice and clean with room for our large suitcases, and pricing was competitive. I highly recommend them!!:)

  2. RCCL offered shipboard credit on the current cruise AND on the future cruise for booking while onboard (which is why we did so). Here is what the RCCL marketing piece said: “Get up to $500 INSTANT Credit on your SeaPass to spend now! Plus, get an additional $300 Onboard Credit on your booked suite!”.

The shipboard credit for the current cruise did show up on my folio until I left the ship, and was then wiped out by RCCL and post dated the shipboard credit reversal back to the date it was granted, resulting in a second billing of $300+ to my credit card on file.

Anyone else out there who had this happen to them too?

  3. I am a Diamond level member with many sailings on Royal Caribbean and had a most disturbing experience on our last sailing, Vision of the Seas. We were given a marketing piece about booking our next cruise while onboard that offered cruise credit on THIS cruise AND the future cruise for booking while onboard. “Get up to $500 INSTANT Credit on your SeaPass to spend now! Plus, get an additional $300 Onboard Credit on your booked suite!”, signed by the Cruise Sales Manager.

It was such a good deal we decided to act on it, and booked a future cruise. After a couple days the $300 cruise credit we had been promised showed up on our folio. It was on the "final " folio when we debarked. But when our charges came through we had not only the "final" folio charge but also a $300 charge, plus a few bucks for what turned out to be a late minibar charge.

RCCL is claiming there is no valid offer of both sailings cruise credits (despite the written marketing piece that says otherwise). I kept a copy of the offer (attached), and am now glad I did. RCCL is claiming the people on ship made a mistake, that it's an isolated incident, and not happening to others.

Has anyone else had a shipboard credit wiped out after leaving the ship, and then charged to them?

  4. We just completed a 1/21/16 sailing of Vision of the Seas, and discovered the same thing - that RCCL has eliminated timed wifi options and now only offers unlimited packages. The result is that in order to retrieve daily emails now costs $120, rather than being free to Diamond members.

Previously, RCCL offered packages of something like 120 minutes for $40 and provided Diamond members $40 off, resulting in two 120 minute packages for two Diamond members (husband and wife) at no cost.

But RCCL has eliminated any timed plans, and now the least expensive package is $160 with a $40 credit for Diamond members, for a $120 net cost. Big increase from zero cost! The only zero cost option is one 24 hour period free (for each Diamond member), but then you'd have no email or other Internet (which we use to download a US newspaper to read offline or check the weather, etc.). NOT happy about this, and agree it's part of the stated RCCL goal to increase shipboard revenue.

  6. I just came back from the Freedom of the Seas 4/27/14 sailing. We used American Express Platinum for the booking with includes $300 shipboard credit. Many times in the past, including as recently as November 2013, I was able to get onboard credit from applying a NextCruise deposit in addition to the Amex Platinum OBC.

But on this sailing, I was told those two OBC's are not combineable. Since getting off the ship yesterday I've been trying to find out when the policy was changed and how it was communicated. Amex Platinum Travel was unaware of the new policy.

I'm also an RCL stockholder and have NOT been able to combine that OBC with the other two, but in following the stock one of the key goals of RCL is to boost "net revenue yield" while simultaneously lowering operating costs. So I assume this quiet change in policy is designed to boost net revenue yield.

I'm actually okay with that, but what I'm not okay with is changing the rules with no communication to those affected!
