  1. We love Blu.   I look forward to the more intimate surroundings, fewer people.   I also like the "personalized" feel you get from the host or hostess.  By the end of the cruise, your servers know your likes and no thank you's.   I miss that when dining in MDR with a random server.   We also enjoy getting to know the staff and this gives you more time to find out about them too.  The food is a little "cleaner" than in MDR but by no means "health" food.    And the comments about breakfast are absolutely true.   I enjoy this (and the blu parfair) every morning.   Throw in a chocolate croissant and I am set.    Aqua Class to me just puts me in a relax mode immediately once I get on board but Blu keeps the mood going.

    Have a great time.

  2. Maggie 2 options April or October, We have a friend living in Oahu, she says that the best time to go is in October, it's when is less hot and less rain. We booked the Eclipse B2B2B Boarding September 22 at Vancouver and ending the vacation Oct 20 at Los Angeles

Our group of 4 is on that first leg from Vancouver to Hawaii on 9/22. We are really looking forward to the extended sea time in Aqua Class. See you on board!

  3. We've cruised all of the Celebrity Solstice Class ships. We booked the Summit for the 12/3 cruise because of the itinerary -- places we haven't been before with the exception of PR which I love and will always go to. I always look at Celebrity first when cruising because they have such good customer service across all of their ships and it's always more serene seemingly. I cruise to get away from it all. I agree with some of the people above me. If you want the newer more options ship, choose the Silhouette (or any of the Solstice class ships for that matter).

Hope you get it all sorted!

I wouldn't fret over being "late to the ball." If you want to dress to the nines, I say, do it! No reason why not -- Celebrity, as you see, encourages you to glam yourself up as much as you like! We have been cruising for 10 years and have almost always been overdressed, compared to the average cruiser. We love it!

We cruise Celebrity at least once a year--I enjoy dressing up as living in FL, no one dresses for anything. We bought a tux for DH several trips ago and I find a dress for both nights BUT I will say that in January on the Western Caribbean itinerary, DH was one of few in a tux. I may quit torturing him lol. But I say, be yourself, obey the open standards, look nice and no one will care. I have friends who NEVER set foot in MDR because they want to be uber casual the entire trip. The beautiful thing about cruising is it's your thing!

  5. When I saw this thread, I was hoping that Celebrity was about to add the Coca-Cola Freestyle machines, which are very popular on Royal Caribbean ships. Would love to see it happen... but my guess is, it's an old webpage. Celebrity hasn't offered the souvenir cups in years - but I have a few of them lol.

Oh, please, keep the cans of soda...It's a small thing, but I really don't like Diet Coke to begin with and the dispensed Diet Coke on RCCL in January was so awful, I asked for a refund of the soda card. Had cans of soda when I was on Solstice, not a souvenir cup, but it's been a couple of years.

Looking forward to my 1-2-3 perk classic beverage package on the Reflection in a couple of weeks.

  6. We were on Solstice in the mediterranean over Thanksgiving and ate in BLU. They had a very traditional offering the American's on board and it was not processed turkey. It was carved (I had white and my DH had dark meat). I, of course, took that offering as well as whatever else was on the menu that night. I was greatly appreciative of X for remembering my American holiday. And the stuffing, as a I recall, was awesome.

Here's hoping you get the same treatment! Safe travels.

  7. I have cruised with Carnival 10+ times, RCCL 5+ times, NCL 5 times, Disney 1 time and Celebrity 2 times with my 3rd coming up at the end of November. There are many many things I loved about Celebrity on our first cruise that has me looking to them first when I get the wanderlust itch. I found X to be so RELAXING compared to Carnival. The statement that has been oft' repeated on this thread is understated elegance. Sure the passenger class is older than my DH and I but I truly appreciated the hands off approach to announcement, but the hands on approach to upscale guest service. You'll enjoy the food much more. I would guess that I am a foodie and always enjoy eating dinner in Carnival's MDR, but you will enjoy ALL of the food on Celebrity. Their buffet is superior to anyone's. Plus, as an avid reader, I can find a quiet comfortable place to read in a lot of areas on the boat. Carnival has a price point place (it's great for short getaways, girl's cruises, family trips with a large group) and I would certainly cruise with them again, but when I want a cruise VACATION, I look to X first, now. Enjoy your trip!:)

  8. I love this thread! I totally enjoy the food on a cruise. I usually work hard a couple weeks prior to the cruise so I am under my "fighting weight" by 5 lbs or so. I also work hard on the cruise (walk on the track in the a.m.), burn 750 calories in the gym once a day. I always take the stairs, usually 2 at a time. I don't drink a lot of alcohol so my calories are mostly consumed by things I want to try. I don't eat a lot of bread normally, but I love that bread basket that comes around at dinner so I do indulge. I also ALWAYS have dessert at dinner, even if it's just ice cream. I try to eat when I'm hungry and if I'm not hungry, and I still want to try something, I have a small portion knowing I can have more if I decide it's worth the calories. I also indulge in soda on a cruise. Just don't attend one of the "flat belly" seminars or you'll feel so awful about drinking the soda you may not have another one :).
