  1. OK I'm sorry you had to cancel your cruise, whatever the reason. But there is still no defense for the incredibly curt and condescending response you gave to those who simply asked for clarification:

    Well I got it!

The OP was obviously slightly sad that they had to forgo the current cruise, I know I would be and that is probably why the OP at the time thought there was enough information given. i know I make written mistakes sometimes.:)

  2. We have exclusively sailed with our kids and have either been seated with other families or a 4 top on our own. We never had a bad experience. One of our cruises we were sat with an Indian family. They weren't really getting into the food being served. I got hold of the head waiter and talked to him (the family didn't want to make a fuss), after that they brought out traditional Indian dishes and served family style. Apparently the cooks were Indian and had this food made up for themselves. We had a great time and we all eat (some) of what they brought out. This summer the wife and are are solo and have picked 2nd seating TD. I am looking forward to meeting new people, but I have a low threshold for BS. I have no problem checking in with the Maitre'd and getting moved.

That was very nice of you to help out these guests, thank you for a great story with a happy ending.:D

  3. We always go for table for 2, our table mates on our first princess cruise argued between themselves all night. We meet people during the day and everyone has a story.

Thank you for the many responses.

Actually it is interesting that many posts are stating they go table for 2, actually we did originally ask for a 2 top via our personalizer for our last three cruises, and in two Princess cruises we booked it nearly a year in advance, but in all instances were still told that there was none available when we boarded. I have requested a 2 top again on the Diamond later this year. I realise that their are limited 2 top,s available, but do wonder sometimes if Princess base the seatings arrangements on their own choice rather than who books first. As I mentioned in my original post, we enjoyed our table mates and hope it continues that way, but as some you have said, "it could happen one day.:)

  4. THIS post is almost 2 years old...................let it go to sleep.

I absolutely agree its snooze time!!!:) but just before I go, I always pick a chair that I like and if it has anything on it I just take it off and put it on another reserved chair. I know that it is very rude, but the so are they. Problem solved

  5. There is no terminal in Auckland, so it seems that X is recommending/testing a staggered system.

Have never noticed before that boarding is a huge problem, (i.e. complaints from Pax etc.) but it is only since the last couple of years that the really large ships are docking.

There are always Pax that will be arriving early (myself included if at all possible). Sometimes you can just walk through, at other times if many are early then there is a longer queue and therefore a longer boarding time.

Celebrity Solstice will be at Princess Wharf, it does have an overseas terminal there. But because it is a bigger ship it will mean that there will be longer queues.

  6. I can assure you Akaroa is not a temporary stop despite being a tender port. It is likely to be the main Canterbury cruise port for many years. It has received glowing reviews from passengers & the journey over the hill to Christchurch is spectacular for those who don't wish to stay in the Akaroa & Banks Peninsula region.

    Have fun.

I certainly hope it does remain the cruise port as we have been there on many occasions and enjoyed it so much it is so fascinating when the cruise ships are in. In January we will have the pleasure of sailing into Akoroa for the first time on Celebrity Solstice.

  7. Akaroa is basically a temporary cruise stop (tendered) since the Christchurch earthquakes and renting a car there is a little more difficult than a normal port situation. Although there are probably a handful of cars available most rentals would go quickly and may not be economical due to the limited time in port. Most people take advantage of the many local and out of town prepaid or private tours available as Akaroa is a very pretty French town that can keep you busy for at least half a day not to mention the many choices of lovely restaurants there.
