  1. We sail Eastbound on December 8th and am eagerly awaiting our stateroom assignment-we could only afford the very lowest grade of inside cabin but regardless we always look forward to knowing which cabin! The last time we bought this grade we were upgraded to a Club Balcony (I think that's what it's called-it's seemed the best cabin before an actual suite) so I feel we have used up all our upgrade fairy luck already in our lifetime! Five weeks today we will be on our way to the cruise terminal...can't wait!!! :):):)

  2. We are looking to book our 4th TA trip on QM2 and have never been offered any perks such as on board credit, free parking etc yet onboard it seems everyone has managed to wangle something! We have booked through a travel agent (we are UK based) and also direct with Cunard but does anyone have any tips on how to go about it? I'm not the most confident of negotiators but figured it might be worth a try!! There seems to be a good sale on inside cabins for the autumn/winter sailings at the moment :) hence preparing to book unusually early for us! Thanks.

  3. I am celebrating my birthday onboard the upcoming Eastbound QM2 (departing Aug 4th) and wondered if anyone has any ideas how to celebrate on board? I believe my husband has some notion of a cake for me! Are there any birthday perks anyone is aware of or is it limited to the flowers/champagne/fruit baskets mentioned on the Cunard website? Thanks in advance-I am very excited to spend my birthday onboard!

  4. Thanks for the advice and info-looks like at the moment we will have to hold off booking (simply due to not having the money now) but make a decision in around a month or so-if we leave it too long and the cabin grade sells out, we might not be able to afford return flights either! And we absolutely do not want to be in that situation.

I know it's out of our control as passengers as to price changes but we have saved so hard and made a lot of sacrifices for this summer holiday, to find out the price has dropped hundreds of pounds days after you pay (happened last time in 2013) is unpleasant. I know everyone has different views on the subject though! Does anyone have any recommendations in the UK as to websites or travel agents that will update you on any price changes without me having to look every single day? Perhaps asking too much...!

  5. My husband is American but we live in the UK. I rang a couple of travel agents today and they said the price you book at is the price you pay no matter how much it goes down. They tried to say it could also go up, but Cunard have previously told me fares don't go beyond their original price for the cabin grade. I've seen on Cruise Critic articles people being offered perks like on board credit for the difference in price at booking to the price at sailing but this seems to be only for US customers.

Also, I was under the impression that in the US it tends to be a cruise only fare whereas we are looking at the price for the cruise and the flight.

Really hope we can afford to sail this summer since I absolutely hate flying and we have been saving for 18 months so far to try and afford it!

  6. We have weddings in New York to go to in July so that is the sailing date we want. Is there any way of knowing how well a particular cruise is selling?

We sailed in December 2013 with a guaranteed cabin so are more than happy to take our chances again-price is important and we've been unlucky before booking and then a massive price drop within days (which is tough when you have been saving for a long time only to find you could potentially have saved hundreds more pounds!). We are expecting to have to pay in full and will be happy with any cabin we end up with if only we can afford to be on cruise to begin with!

  7. Looking to sail Eastbound from NY on August 4th and was wondering when and how much prices drop for inside/outside cabins in the months leading up to it? The cheapest price I found today in the UK was £1083 per person for an inside cabin-will it get much cheaper than that if we leave it another couple of months or so to book? Any advice much appreciated!

  8. I had this vague notion that you had to be resident in the USA to book a cruise through an American site in dollars? My husband is a US citizen living in the UK if that would make any difference! I have seen some great offers in dollars-we can pay using a US bank account also. Advice welcome on this-anything to save some money. We do have our dates fixed now as to travelling Eastbound on August 4 2015 due to a wedding taking place on the East Coast the week before so I know it's probably a massive gamble as to when we book and at what price!

  9. Thanks for that-the price is the single most important thing since money is tight and this will be our only holiday for 2015(or 2014 for that matter) but I realise it can be a bit of a gamble as to price changes-hence asking for advice on the best time to book!

  10. We are thinking of taking the Eastbound crossing next August 4th, and the inside cabin fare at the moment is £1299 per person. Can anyone advise on the best time to book please? Will that price come down much, or a flash sale at a certain time of year, and is it best to book direct with Cunard for the best price or with someone like Iglu? Thanks in advance!

  11. Does anyone know if there might be a shuttle bus running to Penn Station from the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal when we dock on Sunday 22nd December? When I rang Cunard they said these things aren't arranged until after you board which seems a bit late to make other arrangements if there isn't one going where you want!! Any advice welcome :)
