I was on the Jewel and took this photo of the Enchantment you were on while you were docked next to Harmony in Nassau on Feb 21st. What did you think of the stark difference?  The Jewel is a smaller ship as well and we felt like dwarfs next to HOTS.

Haha yes we were next to Harmony at a cococay and a full two decks smaller.  I like the ship that still looks and feels like a ship, not just a floating resort.

What was condition of ship? Were rooms updated? We will be staying in a JS cabin starboard side a few cabins from the aft. When I booked there weren’t many JS to pick from. Didn’t want to be under windjammer or main pool.

I would say it was solid condition.  Yes, there's some scuffs and wear and tear, some decorative elements lost or lights out here and there, but I never felt it was an issue to enjoying the cruise.  This video is still completely accurate

How did you like the aft corner cabin?  We have one for our cruise in April.

Overall we LOVED.  Only had wind and water during bad weather.  Tons of space for 2 loungers and 2 chairs.  Seeing the port before getting off the ship was lovely, the views and privacy of a spot to escape anytime was wonderful.

You could hear the live bands from the Spotlight below which was really noticeable on the first and last nights so anyone who wants to avoid that completely should NOT reserve.  But wasn't an issue otherwise.

The bit of extra space, closet, tub, just helped it feel like a ship to cruise on and cruise in, not just a spot for holding stuff.

  4. I sailed Enchantment Feb 17-25, out of Port Baltimore Ask me Anything!

Cruise experience: One to Alaska in 2014 on Holland

    Cruised with: My partner

Ports explored: Port Canaveral, Cococay, Nassau, Charleston, all independently

    Room: Junior Suite 7166

Extras/Upgrades purchased: None, we bought drinks and pictures on board ad hoc for a total of $170 in extra charges. In the future I would probably get a soda or beverage package because I didn't love the juices or the tap water and I do love smoothies.

RoyalUp: Made minimum bids for grand and owners suites but did not get an upgrade, got the confirmation the 2nd day of the cruise

    Tips:

The Viking Crown lounge on 10 always seemed quiet and empty as its own reading corner during the day

There was always a hot tub in the solarium open until at least midnight also where the Park Cafe always has good pizza and cookies

The Park Cafe and Cafe Lattetudes serve almost the same finger foods/desserts so if there's a line at one you can try the other.

    Dislikes:

The meat sauce they used was identical, for every dish and every serving. It wasn't bad but it's not what I expected or wanted.

There is no 9 am nerd lecture, which I always enjoy, and the Enchantment doesn’t have a sauna and steam bath as the Grandeur does, but it’s all good.

Ahh I had thought that might be the case, sad but understandable and appreciate the confirmation ahead of time.  Just have to enjoy the hot tub a lot.

  6. Hi there, anyone who can direct me to sites which are updating Nassau/Bahamas restrictions that would be fantastic!

I'm on the 8 day cruise late Feb on Enchantment from Baltimore.  It seems like Nassau/Bahamas requires a test within 5 days of coming in, but it will be our 5th/6th day of the cruise.  Will we need to get tested mid cruise?  Appreciate whatever context/news you can offer!

  7. OK so I went on my first cruise last May with my mom and yes, I went and scheduled another cruise with my partner next May. Some of the same spots, some new ones. I know more of specifically what I want this time, so please offer links and reviews of what you consider some great options. Pricing and activity level low to average preferred.

We hail from Philadelphia, 7 Day Seattle Round Trip Holland Westerdam

I want lots of glacier visiting, whale watching, and specifically an excursion to both fish AND eat salmon caught. I like good food and wine, but not huge priority (It's a cruise!)

    Seattle

    Juneau 1-10pm

    Sitka 7am-3pm

    Ketchikan 7 am-1pm

    Victoria 6 pm-Midnight

    Seattle

  8. You didn't note much of what you DO enjoy. I loved Ketchikan for its touristy shops and offbeat vibes. I'd have loved another three hours just to wander on foot.

We did the Totem Cultural museum and tour with special looks. Interesting and educational, but nothing beyond the pale and I'd have enjoyed just eating a full meal in town.

  9. As someone on a first cruise, I wanted things as simple as possible. We bought the HAL transfer for a coach bus to the airport. They were very thorough, a nice info tour combo with the driver on Vancouver, and then off to the flight.

My only issue is having to go through customs at each leg. Off the ship, on the plane, then we had a transfer in Toronto and due to the distance and delays was very harried and I could easily have seen us missing our flight to Baltimore.

My answer if I want to do an Alaskan tour again is simply start and return Seattle directly, no customs problems.

  10. Years ago, I purchased a couple of foam pipe wrap insulation which I cut to size (easy to cut with a scissor) & slide over the bottom rung of the hangar.. It comes in 6ft lengths//Don't remove the cellophane inside the opening, so you can reuse it.. Also use them in our other bags to put between creases..

Smart notion, I would also recommend just getting a pool noodle at the dollar store and using that.
