Ithink it's time to look for a new travel agent

Yikes! That’s terrible. We cruise to those ports every year and have never needed anything other than American $$. Apparently your travel agent hasn’t been traveling [emoji4]

  2. I needed the medical facility just before the second week of our b2b cruise on Adventure two years go. The medical staff was very kind and helpful. I returned for nebulizer treatments every day for a week which helped me tremendously. The charges were added to our cruise account and I received an itemized bill that my insurance company reimbursed me for 100%. (Probably because they were far less than I would have paid at home.

There was a guest on Adventure (within the last few years) who was treated in the medical facility and then we sailed to Curaçao to have him brought by ambulance to a hospital. We were headed to Aruba at the time and returned to Curaçao days later.

  3. I can't speak for shipwreck, as we went to Cockleshell at the end of Jan. But the monkey pictures were non-stop. The guys in port were nice about it, but the ones at Cockelshell were rude. One guy who called my husband a cheap (insert word that shouldn't have been said in front of our toddler) because he politely refused the picture. The same guy then tossed the monkey on a girl near us who was sunbathing with her eyes shut. That guy (along with a handful of others) worked that area of the beach the entire time we were there, continuing to ask us to hold the monkey.

Oh my gosh, that is terrible! I'm sorry you had to deal with that. Hubby and I have no plans to get off the ship in St. Kitts on our vacation because we have always had bad experiences there.

  4. Hubby and I went to Shipwreck beach in March, 2015. Personally, I was horrified but tried to make the best of it. We had to share a chair to put our bag and towels on which was fine because we love to spend time in the ocean. The ocean was a disaster, full of rocks, large and small and when we moved away from the rocks we saw rusted metal stuff (cans, etc). We were told that we might see monkeys in the hills at the beach but thankfully we didn't see any.

We went to this beach because people we met in the Concierge lounge were going and we love the beach. We went to a beach before but it was almost an hour away so we were happy to hear of one so close.

We have grown-up kids and I would not recommend this beach to them or anyone ever.

  5. Do you recall the name of the beach in St Croix? You mentioned it is to the right off the cruise pier. Can you tell me the length of the walk? I looked at the St Croix board, but the beaches mentioned there are 10-15 minute walk partially along a "treacherous" road. Thanks so much!! :)

There is a beach on the left just off the cruise pier, hubby and I have been there several times. You walk to the end of the pier then go left past the tents of vendors, the path is easy to walk. We bring aquasocks (old term but whatever they are called now) because there are rocks on the ocean floor - some at the edge and random rocks when you get out a bit. There is a little restaurant where we get drinks, nachos and free wifi on the beach. We like this spot when we just want to stay nearby but get off the ship.

  6. At the end of the pier is a small town.....restaurant, shops, vendors set up on the right and left. There is also a small beach on the left that we enjoy - bring a towel to sit on and aquasocks if you want to go in the water. There is a restaurant on the beach so you can grab a drink and lunch while you are there and free wifi.

  7. The Beehive.......when you leave the ship, go through the gate, past the first group of stores, there is a bar on the left....if you buy a $3 beer or lunch they will enter the password on your device. There are always ship's crew people there among the tourists.

  8. I'm guessing you're referring to the pier not the port. I've you find there's not much to look at in Old San Juan I'm guessing you didn't get to walk around much. Yes, the Pan-Am pier where AOS is docked is pretty lame since all the good stuff is on the other side of the bay and not within walking distance at all. But if they're letting passengers get on and off the ship like someone posted, it could be a great opportunity for them to see other places other than OSJ which they would not likely get to see if they came in the night before or the same day as sail away and/or leaving the same day or the next after retuning.

Now, i'm no expert but from reading the info that poster chengkp75 has been providing and taking into consideration that the parts to "fix" this didn't arrive in PR until noon, I'm guessing they will NOT be underway today. Ship's been sitting at the pier since Sunday and people are reporting that they are seeing parts coming OFF it today. This is not like changing a flat tire on a car.

I got off AOS on Sunday.....I believe the "fix" was to remove the center prop, not to truly "fix" the center prop.

  9. Vivianmarie, could you confirm that all of the problems are with the center fixipod? (not to intrude on your vacation time, just professionally curious). The tug escort into port and while docking would indicate that one of the steerable pods was also out of commission, as this is standard in US ports when the second method of steering fails.

Left AOS yesterday....in less than lay-mans terms, the center prop was the problem. We traveled 1.3 to keep the center prop from turning (?)because the prop turning was causing issues with the shaft and oil leaking. We could travel with the two side props but the center prop needed to be repaired or removed.

New captain was due yesterday - is it Captain Ron??
