OMG!!! Rick, it's me...Rosemary!!!
I often wonder how you are doing; you know Carol is always in my heart.
I'm doing well, however Joe passed away in June of 2013. I too think of the many cruises we have done and the great people we met along the way. Joe enjoyed the time we spent together during your trips to Florida.
I had a cruise planned for October 2013 with my son and his family. I didn't cancel and glad I didn't. I loved cruising and thought it time for me to go solo. I did the Geteway in August and though many times I would 'talk' to Joe, I actually had a very good time. So much so, that within weeks of being home I booked the Epic for Thanksgiving.
Remember when I first met you and Carol on a cruise? Things weren't going well with the girls I went with so I was pretty much cruising 'solo'. Funny how I would be reminded of that cruise while doing my first real solo! And, because i kept thinking of that cruise, I would be reminded of you and Carol and how we became friends.
And now I see you on cruisecritic! Sad is wanting to turn around and tell Joe 'guess who I'm writing to' and I can't. It's those moments that still pop up and I'm sure you experience the same.
Good reading that you are cruising, which means you are doing well..
Take care and hugs

thanks everyone for your replies. Guess I got spoiled on the Getaway 'waterfront'.
I know at the H20 on the Getaway that there is really no shade. What was nice though, was the waterfalls. That was somewhat in the shade and it was 'wet'..:)
I need to check out Posh. The Getaway has the Vibe, but since I will be on a scooter, there were no elevators to that deck! I know, weird. But, as you can see from the deck photo...boy..that was nice.

I just returned from cruising on the Getaway and must say it was awesome! I loved the deck on level 8 for relaxing or just to take a break.
Can someone tell me if there is a deck (besides the pool area) on the Epic with lounge chairs? It looks like deck 7, but it refers to a walk/jogging track. Also, not interested in the 'sun deck'.
I wish the Getaway did a Western; I would have booked them again. Last night I booked the Epic so now I'm trying to get a 'feel' for the ship.
thanks

I started to see changes when cappuccino was no longer a 'free' drink after dinner.
No prune juice for breakfast at the buffet; got it in the dining room.
Lobster? Escargot? RCL said we were the lucky cruisers because they had escargot the week we cruised!
Free logo towels? Free logo tote?
Gone are decent priced photos! Seriously. There is no reason to be so expense; the paper doesn't cost that much, nor the ink. Imagine how much more they would sell if they lowered the price!

Ann, you are so right!
I too have friends that could not understand how I can go by myself and yet, I never gave it a second thought of why not.
-
Estelle and Southern Lady, I fully understand. I lost my husband in June 2013 and we so enjoyed cruising. Before he passed away, I had set up a cruise for my son and his family for October. My husband didn't want to go, but that was ok. I did not cancel that cruise because I needed it and so did the kids.
This will be my first 'solo' cruise. Like you, I know I will have my moments (I still do), but since I know it's normal, I will get over it.
We move forward as our husbands would want us..
Have fun....

thanks for the heads up LrgPizza!!

MLSA, I will be going on the 16th! I started with a studio, but then I noticed the price went down and for $30.00 I was able to get an inside. That should give me a little more room (bringing scooter and oxygen).
I am going guarantee with taking the chance of a possible upgrade.
If you want to stay in your cabin, check out the going price from what you paid and they should adjust it or you can change cabin category.

here is what I found out from NCL...there is no elevator to the Vibe deck. I didn't see it (only stairs), but I called to make sure. So, cross that off my list...
Instead, I bought the Dinner package

thanks all...
I was under the impression that there was a separate area for the adult pool and lounge chairs. What is the point of having an adult pool and then having kids running around your 'rest' area?
One of the best areas I've used are on some of the RCI ships. The solarium is for adults and separated from the main pool. And...with half circle steps that walk down into the pool.
This won't be the first cruise I've been on that I didn't get to use the pool, so that's ok...but I was hoping...
Too bad Vibes didn't have a pool!!! I would have paid even more than the $79.00!...:)

Thanks for the replies everyone.
Since I'll be a 'solo' cruiser, there is only one charge I need to deal with.
I assume there is also a shaded area to relax...yes?
-
Thank you!!
Sounds like good advice.
What do you get, besides a chair, in this area? Anything free?
-
thanks for the info, everyone.
getting up and down is still a challenge, so sitting at the pool with my feet hanging wouldn't work.
As for hot tubs, I don't use them.
What is so hard for designers to make easy entry into an adult pool? Not all adults are healthy enough to have the strength to use the ladder or have the mobility to get up and down easily from a sitting position. Unless it's a sturdy lounge chair, I get nervous getting up from one!
-
I understand there is a 'charge' for this area. Can someone tell me the price.
Also, do you need to 'buy' your pass everyday?
thanks
-
I have been reading about the pool area being too small, but I figured that was the main pool area and with all the 'kids'.
I'm traveling solo and though I don't mind 'people', I was hoping for that 'getaway' area...
thanks all....

Can someone tell me about the adult pool area. Is there easy access into the pool? Some ships still use the 'ladder' which I can not do. Some RCI ships have half circular steps that walk down into the pool and has a slight drop down in water height; love it!
Does the staff make sure children are not in the adult area? Or, is it like on some ships where kids hang out and no one says anything?
I would love to be able to go in the pool, but like I said, can't do the ladder.
thanks....

Just booked my first solo cruise. My husband passed away last year and it's time for me to cruise again.
Please post if you are going solo on the August 16 cruise

Maria, that was cute...
I'm sure if Rick and I were on the same ship we would have a pleasant time.
