  1. We never travel without additional travel insurance. Nor credit cards without at least 30k available.

During a 4 month cruise in 2019, my husband fell ill and spent 4 days in the ships hospital. Even with all our insurance we had to pay over 18k before we disembarked. Yes, we were reimbursed, but it took over six months.  You have to submit a claim to Medicare. Be denied , then submit the denial and new claim to your advantage ins. They pay whatever. Then you submit both denials and another claim   then the Trip insurance will pay the balance.  BtW. Make sure you have the Ships Medical Center give you four (4) Copies of the bill with the doctor's wet signature.  It is required by by all your carriers (each of our bills was 42 pages long)

  2. Yes,yes,Yes! This is long but worth reading.

We actually live on the Big Island,Hawaii. Honolulu was the closest to home, but our acceptance notice came while we were in Portland Oregon last July. You need to schedule your face-to-face interview within 30 days. Portland's first opening was April 2018. We checked all the locations we'd be in the following 3 months and the only openings we found were in Anchorage.

We tested our first entry in Ft Lauderdale last November, from the time we stepped off the gangplank until we were in our cab...7 minutes!!!

The best added benefit: my driver's license is issued by one of the State's that do not met TSA.. requirements, but my GB..id does.

  3. A little something for men;) A black sport coat - grey pants - black pants - Tan pants - 4 long sleeve dress shirts (white, strips, pale blue, grey) - 3 ties that have all the colors to coordinate - 2 pr. nice jeans - 4 polo shirts - 1 pr. of shorts (for the ship crossing in Oct., it got warm) socks - undies - belt - black shoes (that look dressy, but are really a tennis shoe, Clarks come to mind) - swimsuit - foldable raincoat - pj's optional  This list got my DH thru 30 days of Med TA from Athens to Florida, he never looked out of place.

Yes we did have to use the laundry service 3 times, once a week, the last weeks worth we did when we got home. (We hand washed socks & undies)

I found a simple black dress - 1 pr. dress pants - 4 dressy tops - a dressy black skirt - 2 every day pants - 1 below the knee denim skirt - 4 everyday tops - 1 simple sweater - 4 scarfs (used different ways, makes it appear to be a new outfit, simple) - 1 pr. dress shoes - a cushy pr. of black maryjane Clark shoes - 1 pr. of shorts (for the crossing on deck) socks, undies, pj's, swimsuit - foldable raincoat.

1 carry-on each, 1 checked bag for the both of us, 1 collapsable bag to bring back goodies we found that I put my purse in coming home and called it my purse (i.e.: my personal extra on the plane home).

Sunny, I love your list. Did your husband really get by with one pair of shoes?

My Hubby's size 13's take up most of his suitcase...

  4. KonaJo - I like the "excuseme-whereis" website for finding supermarkets, laundromats, public toilets, and other such conveniences for some Italian cities. Rome is covered. Take a look

Thank you so much for this link. We've actually been on the road already since June 5th and won't be returning home to Hawaii until Dec 3rd. Having this information is extremely helpful. Since we're only taking 1 suitcase and 2 carryon's between the 2 of us, I can probably toss half our clothes towards the end of our trip. They may not be worn out, but I'll probably be sick of them by then:eek:

  5. I carry both the travel clothes line and a great little plastic hanger with a dozen clothes pins attached I found at Storables in the Laundry Department. It hangs anywhere and our undies are taken care of. I also have small packets of Woolite. I don't mind sending out the rest of the laundry. One other thing, we're on the B2B for 29 days this fall, and I'd like to pick up some extra hangers in Rome to add to our closet on board. Do any of you repeat cruisers out of Rome know of any Target type stores that I can pick up necessities that I don't want to stuff in my suitcase? Mahalo

  6. Aloha Karon. We're on your ship also. I was planning on bringing my hooded yellow waterproof swing coat for those wet days and won't need to carry an umbrella. I like to wear my white fleece vest on the plane, I always carry a zippered child's pillow case with me so when I get too warm on the plane I roll up the vest stick it in and have a perfect pillow.
