  1. I’m cruising next month (april 30-may ) on the horizon and I’m bringing my 20 month old. Just found old they can’t play in the pool or splash pad. And camp ocean is closed for his age group due to Covid. Has anyone been on this ship with a child this age recently? What will I be able to do with him? Advice? Tips? I’m feeling discouraged….

  2. Cruising in July and need some advice!

Our family disembarks the Carnival Legend in July 30. We have an AirBnB booked in downtown Seattle but checkin isn’t until 4pm. Any suggestions on what we can do with our luggage during the day while we explore? It looks like port valet only sends luggage to the airport...

  3. My family is doing an Alaskan cruise and recently someone suggested we disembark in Victoria BC, instead of Seattle the following morning.  I was wondering who's done this and if they recommend it?  What did you do after disembarking?  Did you run into any issues?  We are definitely interested in hearing anything you've got to say about it!

    Thanks everyone!

Salmon runs start in July.  If you are there before then you won’t have much luck.

We will be there at the end of July. Thinking Ketchikan might be our best bet for fishing. Do you know of any excursions not through the cruise line that you’d recommend?

I basically agree with CrewNews, but since you didn't say which day you were porting bouelle I'll offer a couple of caveats - first, if it's a Saturday and you like fireworks then Butchart will be worthwhile doing. There's no extra charge for the fireworks, even if you're the last folks to leave when they're done you'll have well over an hour to get back to the ship for recommended All Aboard time, so it's a minimal risk doing it independently (cruise excursions tend to be heavily-padded as well as then priced in USD in my experience - a cab each way will be about $60, entry tickets ~$35pp, and you can fit at least 4 in a cab so use that to compare with whatever your cruiseline is charging).

Second, Friday or Sat means that the fabulous Royal BC Museum will be open until 10pm. Great permanent exhibits, generally one large temporary exhibit, and IMAX movie theater.

Craigdarroch almost certainly won't be open as it shuts no later than 7pm (though I've heard of cruise excursions getting in a little 'after hours' just like at Butchart on occasion) and your expectations need to be reined in for it to begin with - despite the poor choice of name it is NOT a castle, just a fancy house. Nice stained glass and period furnishings, and if you've never seen a castle it might do well enough, but if you've ever visited Europe it will very likely disappoint. It's not even the most castle-y building in Victoria, let alone all of Canada, so they've got major cheek to be calling themselves 'Canada's castle' and claiming the very-definitive-sounding thecastle.ca website;-)

Thank you for providing such detail and insight. We will be there on a Monday evening, as our cruise ends Tuesday in Seattle.

  6. We will be in port in July from 7:30pm-11:59.  Any suggestions on some activities that we can do in this short amount of time? Butchart Gardens? Craigdarroch castle? Is it worth taking the time or are we better off just walking around on our own? Is there tour companies you recommend?

  7. I was wondering if there were any recommendations on fishing tours or fishing equipment rentals in either Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, Victoria. My stepfather loves to fish and I have no clue what to look for in a good fishing excursion. Relying on recommendations for this one!!

  9. Going on our first alaskan cruise in July with the family (6 people total, all adults).  Our ports are Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, Victoria.  Is there any must do excursions in these ports?  Is one port better for whale watching vs another?  What about fishing? We're pretty much open for any type of excursion.

    Thanks!

  10. Okay I really hope you can help me folks! This september is my honeymoon. I've got it narrowed down to 2 cruises but now I'm stuck. Im unfamiliar with both ships and I've never been to ANY of these ports! I've been doing tons of research but I really need personal opinions from those who have been on the ships and to these ports. I know there are catergories to search ports and ships but I'd really like a general sense of the entire package.

Option 1 - 8 Days on Carnival Splendor. Departs in Miami and travels to Grand Turk, La Romana, Curacao, Aruba

Option 2 - 7 Days on Carnival Magic. Departs in Port Canaveral and travels to Amber Cove, St. Thomas, San Juan, Grand Turk

    Thank you so much!

  11. My fiancé and I are trying to decide what to do for our honeymoon in September. Right now I can't decide if we want to do a cruise or all inclusive resort somewhere. I've only been on a few cruises and only 1 resort. I was hoping I could get some insight from my more experienced travellers. Do you think one is better for a romantic week away. We do want adventure on our trip too. We are not big drinkers.

    Thanks for any insight!

  12. My fiancé and I are thinking about going on a carnival cruise in September for our honeymoon. We have about 5 days before the cruise and 3 days after that we could potentially spend in Florida. The cruise were looking at leaves from port Canaveral. Does anyone have any good suggestions about things to do or places to stay in the area.

  13. Hey quick question! Me and my boyfriend our cruising in May and we have 160$ on board excursion credit. We had wanted to use this credit for altun Ha in Belize but I'm worried it'll be totally booked by the time we get on our ship. Has anyone been in this situation before? I know Belize excursions tend to fill up quicker because on the tendering so I don't know if I should risk it.

    Thanks for the suggestions!!

  14. I was wondering What was the quickest and easiest way to get here? Do we have to cab? If so how much should we expect to pay to get there and back? Do they take American money in Cozumel ? Thanks :)

  15. Okay I'm looking at possibly going to Disney post cruise. the ships docks Sunday morning and we fly home out of Tampa Monday evening. Would you say it's worth it for us to do something similar? Rent a car and drive there? I'm assuming Tampa airport has rental returns too? Has anyone done it this way before??

    Thanks!

  16. Hi,

Im departing on the Legend this May and I'm looking for somewhere to stay for a night pre and post cruise. I was wondering if anyone has found any unique, hotels or resorts in the area? I won't be renting a car so shuttles and/or cab distances is also a factor. I did look at the previous Tampa post and all the hotels listed are expensive chain hotels... Is there anything in the area that offers a unique experience like this?

  17. For most of the cruise I kept mine on a lanyard with a waterproof pocket on it. I loved it because I could carry it anywhere, either on me or in my bag. The pocket could hold Chapstick, S&S card, money, ID. It was incredibly useful in ports and on excursions since I didn't need to worry about it getting lost and I knew that all my stuff was safe from water (ex. Cave tubing). It's great when you don't want to carry extra bags with you.

  18. Hey everyone! This May me and my boyfriend will be sailing on the Carnival Legend. This is his first cruise and my 3rd. I was on the dream this past May and on Adventure of the Seas with royal a few years ago.

Since this is our first cruise together I want to do rly great excursions. We stop in Cozumel, Belize, Isla Roatan, and Cayman Islands. We plan on getting off the ship in every port but we only want to do 2-3 excursions. Which excursions would you recommend and what else is there to do in these ports. Does anyone know any private beaches? We are 22 & 23 years old. I love water excursions and he loves land based, so anything you can suggest would be appreciated!
