  1. When i went on feb 2014 qm2 cruise i was strictly told by sydney cunard booking office that i was not allowed to take any wine on board with me when i embarked at Fremantle. So i was really annoyed when i found out after Sydney embarkion that we could have bought wine when ashore and brought it on board. So dont go buying heaps but definitely buy some of your own. I will be next time and will keep it in my room.

  2. In Feb this year we the QM2 docked at Port Melbourne and Cunard did provide a shuttle bus into town but we had to buy a Myki card in the terminal before boarding. We then walked a little round the city then hopped on the tram back to the about 100mt from the pier then it is that short walk.

  3. I have just completed 23nights on the QM2. Most nights were 8.45pm and 10.30pm though on about 4 days they did a 7pm show instead of the 10.30pm but these tended to be on themed formal nights, possibly so passengers could enjoy the Queens Room balls.

  4. I have recently disembarked from QM2 and was my first time cruising. Britannia Restaurant meals are included and you are served in top class surroundings with fantastic staff and wedge wood china. Beware though as it is easy to over indulge. You can do room service for breakfast and other 24hour meals. A small personal tip may be expected when delivered. I opted for breakfast at Kings Court for simple cereal, fresh fruit and juice. Lunch also at Kings a Court most of the time with a great variety to choose from. These meals can also be taken back to your room. Be aware that all speciality teas/coffees are charged to your on board account as is alcohol. Juices served at the Lions Pub, Winter Garden, Sir Samuels, Commodore Club (generally anywhere except Kings Court) you had to pay. I found out very quickly to get juice from Kings a Court and take in the glass to anywhere I was heading to on the liner. On the evening 2 sections of Kings Court are speciality dining at a Cost of $10 a head. I would highly recommend booking the Todd English, a wonderful 3 course dinner for Two cost $59US and fantastic. I did have a meal in the Pub and had a cocktail but it was not expected. This area is used for Trivia at 10.30 and 11.15am but get a seat early as it is very popular. Passengers then tend to stay and have lunch. Morning and afternoon teas are provided in Kings Court with a huge variety of cakes. I would strongly suggest doing afternoon tea in Queens a Room at least once but you may not feel hungry for dinner if at the early sitting. So be prepared to walk the stairs often or head to the gym as all this glorious food is hard to avoid. Enjoy.

  5. I was told by Cunard Sydney that I was not even allowed to take one bottle of wine on QM2. Needless to say I was rather annoyed when others were taking a few bottles and drinking in their staterooms. Not happy Sydney. I would say take some.

  6. Hi all, this is my final question as final pack of cases this weekend with boarding on Tuesday and really getting excited.

Can someone tell me if there is plenty of room in the cupboards for dresses for 2 ladies. Also are there many coat hangers or should I pack some myself? Are there any drawers for clothes, I can't see any photo of inside similar cabin showing drawers.

  7. I am just wanting to know are we needing a visa for the Aust circumnavigation on Qm2? I read on another forum that we will get charged to our on board account when at Bali. Is that the only visa we need. I was not told when originally booking that we would need one.

  8. Do ladies tend to be seen in same formal dresses over a long cruise. I am going to be stuck trying to find numerous formal and semi-formal outfits. Think I may dine in kings court some nights so as to not feel out of place. I was eager for this cruise and now packing is becoming a nightmare lol.

  9. I have boarded many Cunard ship saround the world, I can assure you 100% that yon wear just what ever you want to wear, you will see when your there, In freemantle is the heat and in the crazy free for all cruise terminal , shorts and t shirt will be the order of the day.

On my first ever voyage, a crossing we were told to wear a suit for debark, we did, it was a heat wave, could not get it off fast enough.

so you will see shorts or jean and t shirts, same during the day on the ship:)

I can tell you that freemantle a crazy terminal, we had to line up outside just to get in and on a narrow platform and then up some stairs, it was very , very hot and very disorganised

Oh dear, I grew up around Freo and shame there may be boarding issues. I will definitely dress casual. Thanks for the heads up and nice to know.

  10. Just wondering what's the best attire to wear when going to board. Is casual appropriate in case we have to wait too long? I don't want to dress up too much and be in high heels but also don't want to feel out of place. Be boarding QM2 in 11days at Fremantle.

  11. Ok, all comments taken in decision : NO sign/banner will be displayed. My dad wanted one with our names on so he could see me from our cabin and take a photo from dockside, I will use a bright shirt or something and wave it about and hopefully he can see it.

  12. I know this may be tacky for a cruise liner, but are passengers allowed to hang a material sign from their balcony cabin when coming into a port? I have never seen one on Cunard liners but can't seem to find any information on restrictions.

  13. Can anyone help me with info on the non alcoholic drinks package. I think it is $6.50 per day. Is that per person? Also I read that you have to pay for entire voyage if you book it, is this correct. I would not drink that much soft drinks or juice on my own for 22 days. Can this cost be split between 2 people or more? If so how does that work?

  14. Wow so much great advise, still not sure which way go. I read some people did the auto tipping but then felt obligated to give out more personally on last day as other passengers were doing this. I don't mind the auto tipping but it is going to be $255 x 2 so would be happy with just that. Suppose small tip for room service would be fair. Again thank you all.

  15. As an Australian it is not a custom to pay tips in our country. I have again read lots of advise through forums and don't want to sound stingy, but with the cost I am paying for my balcony cabin, having to tip as well surprises me. I know in the USA waitress's are poorly paid so rely on tips to increase their income. (My sister has lived in the USA for 30years as a part time waitress) Is this the same for QM2 staff? I am going to remove the auto tipping as soon as I board and will tip those staff who I feel truly deserve it. What amount is suggested on the last day? Do you tip the staff if you order room service, again what would staff be expecting?

This comment I am sure will result in some backlash, but please keep in mind that if you live where this is not part of every day life it is difficult to be forth coming.

I also just wondered why $US is used and not £ as the currency, what's the history behind this out of curiosity. I purchased US dollars when it was an excellent exchange rate so shall put this on my account. This saves being charged by my bank a conversion fee if my credit card was used.

  16. Can someone advise what hand luggage we are permitted to take through? I would like to take a smaller case with evening wear as I have read in some forums the checked in luggage sometimes does not get to the cabin till after 6pm dinner. Is it best to also book room service for breakfast the first morning, again read that can be chaotic after being in a new port. Thanks for any responses.

  17. What size case can fit under the bed of sheltered balcony cabin deck 6. Any suggestions as I am a first time cruiser and bringing my mum. Departing in February. Qm2

  18. I am on my first ever cruise in 4 weeks. I have a sheltered balcony cabin on deck 6 and have read some cruisers say that the cases could be stored under the bed. Can anyone confirm this and give me an idea on the size case. My mum is sharing with me as our husbands were not interested - more fun for us I say. Any tips would be appreciated.
