  1. Kruzseeka, your reply here might be 4 years old but it’s so helpful I just wanted to thank you! The info here is perfect for my upcoming fjord cruise, & I’d only searched for the term ‘Nærøy’ but got all this other info for all our ports of call.

    Thanks again! [emoji4]

  2. Royal have listed everything that’s being added during the dry dock, but not mentioned refurbishing of the cabins. Our last two Indy cruises the cabins were showing their age in places, so using the deck plans I’ve booked one of the new ones. So it’s guaranteed to be all shiny and new [emoji4] ..... but tbh we only ever use it to sleep, wash, change etc so will probably make little difference to us anyway!

  3. Wow some brilliant info there! Thanks for that.

I rang tui/Marella whatever they are yesterday, & to be perfectly honest if that's an indication of the standards I can expect I'll maybe not book anyway, she was appalling, not a clue about anything & it was quite simple deck plan stuff [emoji849]. I'd only asked about aft wake-facing cabins, I'd lost her at that point [emoji23]

Well despite that, we will book as we've managed to both get time off now and I like the look of both the ship & ports. [emoji4]

  4. That's great, thanks a lot. I'll try to get a brochure, the websites a bit lacking & I did read all the online faq's. I expect things to be chargeable as the cruise £ is really reasonable, just that you know what to expect from your normal lines, so want a feeling for the 'Marella' way [emoji4]

Mine's not til June so I'll be looking forward to hearing what you think!

    Thanks again

  5. Hi all! To set the scene ... my cruising experience is 2x p&o (Oceana & Azura) & 2x Royal (Independence) all out of Southampton as hubby hates flying.

So I'm now planning my first Marella cruise, Discovery, Newcastle to Fjords. First trip to Fjords. We live in Yorkshire & just don't see the point in travelling all the way to s'ton just to sail back up the north coast then repeat. [emoji848]. So fancy the Marella northerner's option.

So knowing what we're used to, how will I find it?!

I'm quite ok with it being a more informal setting than p&o, as that's why we like Indy. The ship itself I'm fine with too I think. But there's not much info in their websites faq's section.

It's things like - do they have unlimited luggage like the others? (No flights remember) We usually take an extra small case. Or do they charge for port transfers? (Maybe not an issue in fjords?) Do they provide toiletries? Is there room service? You get the picture.

Anything at all to introduce me to Discovery/Marella/Fjords I'd really appreciate it. Sell it to me [emoji4] Thank you

  6. Does anyone know if it's worth me ringing RCI tomorrow to see if I can upgrade and pay the difference now from my free Select package to the Premium one? Do they allow that in advance or do they make you wait until you actually board? I'd save a lot of money if I can do it now.

I've tried this several months back to try & make use of the 20% discount they have, but there's no way to upgrade & pay the difference until you're onboard unfortunately

  7. Why not just keep the promo select package and pay the difference on each drink. If it's just the occasional drink that's over the $8 limit then that way must be cheaper.

It's not just paying the difference, I'd like a few cocktails or spirits occasionally so I'd have to pay the full apx $12+ for every cocktail as the select package is just soda, wine & beer. Better to upgrade for the cost of one & bit cocktails per day, then the rest are 'free' [emoji4]

  8. We used Daniel last year http://www.danielmadeirataxis.com/index.php?lang=eng

And enjoyed the tour so much we have re-booked him again for next year :)

Prices are very reasonable in Madeira and it is a beautiful spot.

Hi kazu, I'm looking at Daniels tours for this October, can I ask which one you did? I only want a 4-5 hour tour as we depart at 1700, & I like to be back in plenty of time. We did the amazing nuns valley trip last year through happytours, very good & very reasonable. (although my husband was a nervous wreck at the sheer mountain drops & cliff edge roads!) [emoji85]

    Thanks

  9. Unfortunately for us Brits the prices are huge at the moment, I still think it's worth ( if that's right word [emoji50]) us buying the package as individual drink prices are huge too! Luckily my husband & I have the select package free & I'll just upgrade mine to premium onboard so I can have the cocktails.

I've only sailed with p&o before & their cocktails are only about £6-7 with no add-on, so it's a big leap to pay more like £12, wish the exchange rate would pick up! Same with the tips £5 per day p&o, not £10+. I'm not complaining, I priced up the alternatives this year & am quite happy with the RCI promos we got so it levelled it out, but if anyone goes without doing a bit of research it could be a shock for some new UK sailers!

Hope you had a fabulous cruise twinkle, I'm so excited it's pathetic!!

  10. I'm on Indy this October, my sailing is offering 20% off, 11 nights premium is in my cart for £439.76 total, £39.98 per day ( they actually charge per night not per day ). This price INCLUDES the 18% already, the final credit card screen doesn't add anything else on.

So when you log on the price shown on the first screen is accurate.

I wanted to buy it in advance for my 19 year old daughter but unfortunately even tho it's an ex-UK sailing & she is allowed to drink onboard as per European drinking laws, the RCI computer won't let me advance buy as it flags her as under 21! Hopefully if I ring they will honour the current discount. [emoji57]

  11. I'm interested in buying some obc at these rates, I just wondered does anyone know when I ring if I can choose how to allocate the money? I'm cruising with my daughters & I'd like to give them a head start on their bill, I've already got $400 & a select drinks package included so would only want it putting down off their account.

Asda today only offering $89 for £70 so it's free money! [emoji4]

  12. I've copied my post from the other thread....

I bought my internet package on referendum day as I knew they'd increase the prices quickly if 'out' won.

My 2 device surf package has only increased by about £1 a day, so not too bad but I found an old screenshot from April of the premium drinks package ... Over £6 per day increase now! It's now £38.42 compared to Aprils £32.38, both prices have the 20% discount offer.

We already have 'select' included luckily & I may upgrade onboard, those $12+ cocktails will seem costly now otherwise!

This is the price for Independence btw .... [emoji6][emoji23][emoji23]
