  1. You could use public buses, but its wise to check out the published schedules to see if it works with your own schedule. You are aware that you are heading in opposite directions (from town and the cruise port) which means you will spend a lot of time dealing with buses. You would have to bus back into town (to the bus station near the ship) to later catch a different bus line out to Palm. In your situation we would probably opt for a rental car to save valuable time.

That being said, Mangel Halto is not a place for snorkel novices. You would certainly want to have decent flippers. When we recommend snorkeling places on the island (which we have often done here in the past) we purposely omit Mangel Halto. The current can be brutal (especially on windy days) and a one-way drift snorkel makes the most sense...although it will leave you with a hike if you are using a rental car. If you do head out to that area, it can be helpful to run into local snorkelers who will always have advice on how to handle the existing currents.

Which places do you recommend for snorkeling if we rent a car?

    Thanks!

  2. Although I am usually an advocate of mass transit, I wouldn't rely on the bus in Aruba. In two trips there I barely saw a bus. The schedule is very infrequent - about 1 bus per hour in any direction. I guess if that works for you and the bus is close enough to where you are going you could give it a shot.

We have always rented a car for our air/land vacations in Aruba and it's the easiest way around. We have never used taxis so I can't comment on cost or friendliness of service.

We have decided to rent a car, but I cannot figure out which rental place is closest to the port? Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

  3. I need some help planning our day in Aruba.

We plan to head to Mangel Halto to snorkel from the port,

maybe have some lunch, then take a sunset cruise from Palm Beach, ending up with

    dinner near the port.

Any thoughts on how we should handle transportation?

    Thank you!:cool::cool:

  4. Next summer my DW and I are planning on taking a cruise out of San Juan to the Southern Caribbean. We are so very excited

Can you anyone recommend a good reasonable hotel and a good airline to get to San Juan PR from Florida?

Any suggestions of a good restaurant the night before we sail?

    Thanks!

  5. We are in a deluxe balcony room and I wonder if anyone can tell me how many electrical outlets there are and where they may be? Between iPhones, iPads blow dryer, hair straightener... Just wondering if I should bring a multi plug extension cord to make life easier?? Also are there alarm clocks in the room with the Chargers built in? Thanks

There are not a lot of outlets in the deluxe balcony rooms. However, I purchased one of those multiple USB charging stations for our last cruise and it was perfect. It only takes on plug but charges six devices. They are reasonable on Amazon. Here is a link to one: http://a.co/9u8ohj8

There is a hair dryer already in your cabin so you don't need to pack one and it plugs in of course in the bathroom although sometimes we use it in the room. I think there are clocks but we usually have the tv on while we are getting ready (we don't spend a lot of time in our cabin, even though its a balcony) and the TV has the time. I believe there is a rule against bringing power strips and extension cords. Hope this helps!

  6. Holland America and Carnival are two of several cruise lines owned by Carnival Corporation. As such they are sister lines (along with the others). Carnival Corporation has a policy that once you have sailed on one of their lines, you are considered a repeater on the other lines. This does not extend to counting the days sailed on the other lines, though. The "repeater" really doesn't get you much status.

If you have already sailed on one of the other Carnival Corporation lines, you need to make HAL aware of that. You will then board with one star status, which will get you an invitation to the Mariner's Brunch and a commemorative tile.

Welcome to Holland America. Have a great time in The Great Land! Alaska is special.

    Thanks for the insight!

  7. This is a fantastic thread! Thank you to everyone for providing such great insight!

We are sailing on the Westerdam to Alaska in June for our honeymoon.

I have cruised Carnival once and my fiance and I have sailed RCCL 4 times. We are excited to try HAL!

Does anyone know if the Westerdam as either a pub or wine bar?

Also did I understand it correctly that HAL and Carnival are somehow related when it comes to cruise points?

Anyone have any other interesting tips about the Westerdam?

    Thanks!!!

  8. We love the Money Bar! We will be in Cozumel this Saturday for the third time.

We will definitely go to the Money Bar. The food and drinks are great and reasonable, the snorkeling is wonderful and the cab fare is cheap there and back.

    They play awesome 80's music!

  10. Does that really matter, since the content of the thread is still accurate and relevant? The security codes (like Alpha, Bravo, Oscar) haven't changed, and it's probably interesting to some people who didn't know, even if the thread is old.

Exactly. I am excited about my upcoming cruise in 6 days, was "crusing" the message boards and saw this thread which I found completely relevant and interesting. Especially because the NOS called and OSCAR OSCAR OSCAR the other day.
