I am onboard the Escape now and just wanted let everyone know that I was able to make free internet and video calls using the ship's wi-fi and Google Duo. I was able to call anyone else who had the app. Phone was in Airplane mode the whole time.
You can download the app for Android and Apple products. We were also able to use it to call and leave video messages for each other while on board. Not sure if it will work on all ships but it is worth a try. Hope this helps.
