  1. O.k., I have searched the forums but have not found this... We will have to upgrade to premium drink package and buy 5 dinner package after we are on board (lots of o.b.c.) where do we do this? I expect the main desk...Yes???

I was in the Reflection November 8th. They had a couple tables setup where you could upgrade to the premium drink package and book a dinner package. Also on the first day pretty much every bartender tried to upgrade our drink package. I ended up staying with the classic and I was fine.

  2. On board the Reflection right now. We have been stopped for a bit. There is a refugee ship with about 8 people a couple hundred yards off the side of the boat. Even the crew are coming on deck 4 to take pictures so this must not happen often.

  3. The Casino Bar TV's usually have sporting events playing. The biggest question is whether Celebrity will pay for the rights to air the World Series (Not a cheap venture), I am guessing that they probably would.

Celebrity shouldn't have to pay extra just for the World Series. They presumably already are paying for public view TV and the World Series is not an event that would command additional fees. If they wanted something like NFL Sunday Ticket or a UFC event that would be additional fees.

  4. So what benefits does a travel agent give the consumer in 2014?

US based here. I was looking to cruise in November with Celebrity. I found the best price from Celebrity direct and then I located a TA that was able to give me a slightly better price than Celebrity along with added on-board credit.

Normally I always prefer to book direct but I would have felt silly paying a slightly higher price and not receiving the credit.

  5. Just wondering, what does Celebrity do if one of their cruises is headed into the path of a hurricane? Does anyone have experience with this?

They reroute to try to avoid the hurricane.

If they can call on other ports they do so. I had one cruise occur during a hurricane and we were pretty lucky they just changed from Eastern to Western Caribbean. We simply got a sheet of paper when we boarded listing the new ports. This was RCCL but I would imagine Celebrity would be similar.

In rare situations they might not have any options but to simply offer a cruise full of sea days.

  6. If you are taking a laptop you might want to consider using gMail to make calls while using the ship's internet. I was on a cruise last summer in the Baltic and found that this was the best way to stay connected.

If you are a US gMail user you can call regular numbers in the US for no fee from anywhere in the world. I used a headset with my laptop and while making some calls back home and to work I was able to check my email.

Granted the internet on cruise ships is not a very fast connection but I never had any quality issues with gMail. Some popular apps such as Facebook will also let you do calling to anybody else that has the app if you are not taking a laptop so that might be something to look into as well.

  7. Somewhat related information. I was on the Vision of the Seas last July and if I had to do it over I would book a private tour in St Petersburg over the ship's offering, in that case RCCL.

We had to wait almost two hours in the lounge while people with private tours went straight off the ship. It felt like a horrible waste of time. We did love the two day bus tour that we did but other that did private tours seem to have a much better experience.
