  1. When were on Equinox last summer, I had told my family that I was using our on-board credit to buy the photo gallery print and digital package (all the port photos, the various places around the ship each night etc.) as my main souveneir (my girls were 16 at the time). After getting kind of bored with the same poses at each location, on a bit of a whim, we had family photos taken in the Studio. Petar was a fabulous photographer. We told him we wanted some casual, perhaps even silly family photos. The next day when they were ready for viewing, the rest of the family didn't want to show up to view them, so it was just me. He turned on the tv, turned down the lights, played Adele in the background, and started the slide show. Well, by photo number 2, I was in tears. They were absolutely wonderful! I am not sure of the regular prices, but since I asked for no editing and the photo shoot had been only about 20 minutes (on our way to dinner), he put everything on a disc for $500. I think I got an amazing deal. It wasn't until I got home that I realized that all the photo digital images were in both black&white and colour too!

The quality of the photographs taken in the studio is very much superior to that taken by the ship's regular 'photographers', and I highly recommend seeing what they can do for you!

  2. We have $700 to spend on our cruise leaving this Friday.

    big-better-best promotion: $300 OBC

+ credit for booking future cruise while on previous cruise: $200

+ credit because Celebrity cancelled a previous cruise that we had booked: $200

I have already "spent" about half of it. Now that you can use OBC before sailing, I have purchased shore excursions and kept some for the luggage valet service that is now available.

  3. Hi Dan - we asked that exact question when we were on Equinox last summer. Indeed, there is no way to close those inner doors if you are using the outer-connecting doors. So, no privacy. However, we handled it this way: leave the outer doors open as usual. Have your cabin attendant unlock the balcony divider (half of it folds back). Have you, and your connecting cabin leave your balcony doors unlocked. This way, you can travel back and forth to each cabin via the balcony. This of course would only work if your children are not young, and you feel safe having them in a cabin with an unlocked balcony door. This worked really well for us (with teenagers). Just be careful if you open the balcony door when the front door is open, as the wind tunnel effect is very strong!

  4. If the outer doors are being used, then the inner doors can NOT be used. They are held open against the inner cabin wall by a powerful magnet. Only one set or the other can be used. You would need to ask the cabin attendant to unlock (turn off the electrical magnet) the outer doors, and the inner doors would get locked open (by turning on the electrical magnet) if you choose to do this. It can not be done by the cruiser themself.

  5. We pick up a couple of storage cubes from our local Dollar store before each cruise. They are about 11 X 11 each when opened. We personally have found them quite useful. Since they dont cost much, we usually end up leaving them for a future guest (well, also the suitcases now have some souvenirs taking up room!)

  6. Check out this thread.

We were on Equinox last summer (and loved it so much we are returning in may) and had connecting cabins with our teenagers. Since there is NO door between the cabins (as there is in the typical connecting rooms in a hotel) there was no issue with noise. To use the rooms as connected rooms, their main doors get locked-open, and the outer hall doors are released. Then you can move between the two cabins without going in to the hall. However, we did not use this feature as you could not also close the interior doors (ie at night time for privacy from the kids) . We chose to leave the doors as usual and have the cabin attendant unlock the divider between our balconies allowing us access to each cabin by the balcony doors.

  7. We also have the go best promotion, and $700 Obc. I have already pre-spent half of it in my head. We are planning on booking the behind the scenes tours after boarding, and taking advantage of the return of the luggage valet since you can use the obc to pay the airline luggage fees.

If you do have a large amount of obc and travelling with a group or family, i highly recommend the professional photo studio. On our last cruise, we had some family photos taken (with no purchase comittment) and they were the BEST family photos we have ever had. I actually cried when Petra showed them on the tv screen!

  8. If this is a special vacation, perhaps consider a photo shoot in the Studio. We had some family photos taken by Petar on Equinox this summer. They were the most lovely family photos we have ever had! They are NOT the same as the usual poses taken outside the dining rooms. He is a really talented photographer!

  9. We travelled on the Equinox (Barcelona to Athens) in July this past summer. I was really looking forward to some lectures (like those given by Milos, on an Alaskan cruise). Unfortunately there were none. I had asked our cruise director, Alejandro at our Cruise Critic Connections party and he said that they had tried it in the past but nobody had attended because these cruises were so port intensive. Not sure about other ships, and other itineraries.

  10. On our first family cruise, our daughters were 8. Our waiter had 4 tables to serve but we were the only ones that showed up for dinner each night. Galen would get our meals quickly and then chat with us while braiding the girls hair each night. One evening one of the girls ordered icecream which came with a cookie. The other ordered jello which did not. She asked Galen if she could have a cookie too. Well, from then on each night after dessert he would bring an entire tray of cookies for them to take to their room in case they needed a midnight snack. They were so excited to carry them in the elevator each evening with everyone questioning why they were so lucky.

On another cruise, the girls were 14. If you have had teenaged girls, you know they can be a little messy leaving clothes everywhere. Our cabin steward told me that i was on holiday, and not to argue with them about it and then proceeded to pick up, fold and place their clothes a clear bag each night. Her extra tip was well worth it!

On our recent cruise, our regular dining room waiter would come find us at lunch each day and tell the person serving us our food preferences. One day he said to make sure we didnt eat too much since it would be formal night for dinner. When i mentioned that i was looking forward to the key lime pie, the waiters looked panicked because it was no longer served. I guess the look of dissapointment was too much for them. Next thing i know the dining room manager is on the phone to the chef ordering a custom made pie for us for the next evening. Yummy!

  11. We were in Toulon in July. A couple of things to consider: what day are you there? We were there on a Sunday and many/most shops were closed, as it would be on a Monday too. My dh and dd were planning on taking the Petit Train for a tour of the naval base. This tour is not running at the moment because the base is on high alert because of all the terrorist attacks. They took the other train tour around the city and quite enjoyed it while my other dd and i just walked around and explored the market. Enjoy whatever you decide.

  12. My girls were part of the show when we were on Freedom, back in 2007. They signed up in the kids club the day before, for the evening show. To be clear, there is NO acting involved. They walk out on the stage, sit down, are sung to, and then "climb" into the book. After that, they were brought out to join us at our seats to watch the end of the show. They really had a good time and the staff were wonderful with them.
