  1. My family traveled from Italy to NYC on the SS Constitution in 1964 but was paid for by the Army. We have many nice photos from all the ports and we had a great time even if I was only 9 y/o. I believe this was in the month of February. We stopped in Monaco and the Island of Madeira.

God what memories. I'm sad just to find out that it's on the bottom of the sea.

Do you have any photos taken on the ship that you can post? I have some in the link below when we were on her in July 1962. (Genoa to NYC) I loved Madeira, too. I bet my uncle, the chief engineer, was working on the Constitution in 1964 during your trip. He was on vacation during our's.

  2. I was also on the Dream 10/19. Had my 97 yr old Dad and 89 yr old Mom with me. I walk with 2 canes, Dad with one. It was rough, but I will say that the Staff and Captain were trying their best. They had absolutly no control over the weater and he did a remarkable job getting all 2400 some people to Bermuda .

I have friends who work on the ship, and their TV missed hitting the floor- they lost some 40 tv's. Dishes and other items came to 20 thousand. In fact I kidded one of the servers and asked if we were picking up paper plates and cups in Bermuda, and we both laughted.

The relief in the captain's voice once we reached Bermuda was heard- he did have many lives in his hands for those many hours. He did an amazing job.

The Majesty lost all the windows in the Firworks lounge at the front of her bow. ( Was told that by the crew on the Dream). So I would say we were lucky, and we still enjoyed Bermuda dispite the rough trip there. ( Dad fell in the bathroom one night of the rough sea's, the crew were remarkable- helped get him to the Medical room and stiched him up. He still enjoyed his trip even with the fall).

Zamboni_girl is right. You are troopers! Our TV fell in the middle of the night on the Majesty in Sept. At least it didn't land on our DGD! I'm surprised they're not bolted down. Well, they did bolt our's down in the morning when I told them about it. :)

  3. Well, while DUH boat was going under DUH bridge, I looked back and saw an NCL ship (it was floating) coming down the Hudson.

It was looking really nice, and then behind that, I noticed the Victory pulling out from its berth. So it was the three of us in a line. Victory, of course, was heading north, we were heading south, but I never knew which NCL ship that was, and have no idea where it was going. Never saw her again, so it wasn't ber MUD a.

That's the NCL Spirit. I'm enjoying your photos. Thanks for posting them.

  5. My uncle, Fred Hirst, was the Chief Engineer on the SS Constitution in the 1950's-'60's. My parents & I were passengers on the Constitution traveling from Genoa to NYC in the summer of 1961 or 1962. We were members of the Bottle Slingers Assiciation...we threw messages in a bottle over the side of the ship. I have a photo of myself on the bridge. We were given the key to the ship & I lost it. When the passengers were being tendered ashore in Barcelona, no one could find me. They thought I had gone ashore by myself, but they found me in the playroom. I enjoy the book by Wm. H. Miller about the Constitution & the Independence. The Life Magazine dated 6/27/55 has a photo of the Constitution crew on the cover. Remember the episode of Lucy being lowered onto a ship by helicopter?...that was the Constitution!
