  1. We ended up sort of doing the tour. Got a little side tracked on Bay Street in the morning and got a late start so we skipped a few sights. Set first destination to Queen's Staircase and passed most of the stops on the way (first couple of squares, library etc.). Walked up Queen's Staircase and saw Fort Fincastle. Running later than wanted so set next stop to John Watlings Distillery, it is behind the St. Frances Catholic Church. On the way to the Distillery we passed the post office, government house, Gregory Arch, and of course the church. The Distillery Tour is nice and short, the rum is small batch and is priced as such. From there we went to Christ Church Cathedral which is across the street from the Pirate Museum. The stained glass windows in the Cathedral are very impressive. That pretty much ended the walking tour. We did catch a cab over to the Fish Fry and ate a Oh Andros. The wife and I split the fried conch and grouper plate and could not finish it, probably the best thing I ate the entire trip.

All in all it was a good time. The walk is sometimes difficult because the streets of Nassau are not set up for pedestrians. I would recommend picking the sites you want to see and focusing on those as you will pass most of the other on the way. One other suggestion is printing out a better map with more street names listed. Several times we got turned around because we were unsure if we need to go a block forward or back to stay on route.

  2. We will be slightly modifying it though. It looks like the Watlings Distillery is across the street from St. Francis from there we will be going down Augusta St. to West Bay and then out to Fish Fry. After eating we will then head back towards the port.

  3. has anyone done this lately? This post is 2 years old and looks like it was a little out of date even then. I'm trying to find some neat places for us to see in Nassau and not spend a small fortune

My wife and I are planning on doing it on the 30th. I will post back and let you know.

  4. Someone here once said that the letter indicates the 'quality' of the room with A being the best, B being the next best, etc. (according to whoever rates the room at carnival.)

Other way around on the letters but essentially this. A is the lowest ranked room in a category and then upwards.

For instance on the Liberty 8A is a Balcony room on the Upper Deck Forward and Aft, 8B is a Balcony room on the Upper Deck Midship and Empress Deck Forward and Aft, and 8C is Empress Midship and Verandah Forward and Aft, so on and so on.

Carnival considers the higher decks more desirable than lower deck and the midship more desirable than the forward and aft sections.

  5. The Hilton is a good option. I have also stayed at the Windham which I believe is actually closer to DTD. If you want to go the full disney experience I would recommend staying at either of the Port Orleans Disney Hotels. I prefer the French Quarter over Riverside. Both of these Hotels have transportation by boat to DTD or you can take the Disney Bus.

  6. Savannah is such a beautiful city to visit. A cruise port would be fantastic. Is there a major airport there? Do cities make huge concessions like deepening the channel without any real sort of commitment? Seems like they would be spending millions on just hoping to lure a cruise line. Maybe that's the common practice?

At any rate, fingers crossed, because we sure miss Mobile!

The deepening of the channel has nothing to do with cruise ships. The deepening of the channel is to accommodate larger container ships.

Cruise traffic would just be an extra bonus, it in not the driving factor.

  7. We are on the same cruise and plan to just do the Frommers Walking Tour of Nassau and then end up at the Fish Fry for lunch and Junkanoo Beach for a bit at the end.

It looks like I can make that happen, anyway. Not sure if this is good for you with the older members of your family.

  8. I guess the kids who have died as a result of second hand e-cig "vapor" is not enough. I read every few days where testing is proving that e-cigs present the same dangers as tobacco smoke. Putting nicotine into the air is not good no matter the method. Sorry to disagree, but please don't smoke in my cabin!

I'm not a smoker or a vaper but there is no reason to just make things up. It emboldens the other side when you say something so outlandish.

There were articles out a couple of weeks to a month ago about how the actual ingestion of the fluid used in e-cigs was causing some poisonings, but I don't think any of those incidents resulted in death.

  9. I booked our upcoming cruise of the Freedom and we are taking our children and grandchildren. The first time I saw the sale listed I went and tried a fake booking and the results were more than I paid booking a year ago. Pretty poor business model the new CEO has. Did they think folks wouldn't catch on.

I wonder if others have noticed prices have not come down on future cruises.

I've been booked for over a year and not seen on REAL price drop. Only phoney sales.

I went ahead and bolded the pertinent portions of your post.

It appears to me that Carnival has done the exact opposite of what you are claiming. They have figured out the price point that will fill the ship and started with that low price and then as the ship fills they are raising the price of the cruise.

You are upset that the cruise now cost more than when you booked, that makes little to no sense.

They are rewarding you up front for booking early not penalizing you. They could have started at a higher price and you could have booked at that price. Then as the price dropped you could have gotten the price drops until the shipped filled and the price was settled.

Instead Carnival just started you at the price you would have probably ended up at anyway.

To the larger point the amount of hand ringing over the "Kids Sail Free" promo has been astounding to me. Very few to no businesses allow you to combine promotions and all businesses have conditions for their promotions, why should Carnival be any different?

  10. Did you call and how did this work out for you if you did?

I have a similar situation. It looks like it will save me around $260. My problem is I am booked in an 8C and it looks like some of those are on the Verandah Deck under the aft deck pool. Not sure I want to be back there.

  11. I keep seeing these post about FTTF being sold out and hard to come by. My sailing is July 27th and the cruise must not be selling well because I booked a month ago and FTTF was available. I purchased and there were 12 left, I check back occasionally to see what the number is and toady there are still seven left.

  12. Ok, I have decided to wait it out and see if there is a price drop instead of trying for the credit. Thanks for the replies.

Like I said I am new to this but it doesn't appear that the cruise we are on is selling very well. We only have about 3 people in our Roll Call and there is still a lot of availability in every cabin category.

  13. I know that some times the OBC is per cabin so that $50 is actually $25/person. Just something to look into so that you can ensure you are getting the deal you think you are.

Yeah, thought of that and did a mock booking and would have gotten the $100 credit.

Going to send in the request, as stated above, the worst that can happen is they say no.

  14. I am sailing on July 27th on an Early Saver Rate and I am unsure how the rate drop works, I am sure I am wrong on this.

I have booked a Balcony (8B) for $739 per person (2 people $1478 total) using early saver. Today a new rate popped up "Shore Excursion Credit Sale." The new rate is $764 per person but includes a $50 shore excursion credit. So, for $25 more per person I get a $50 credit per person. If this rate had been available when I booked I would have selected it as I have already booked FTTF. In my opinion this is a cheaper rate. I am sure that Carnival would not see it that way though.

    Any thoughts?
